I just want to know if anyone has used or is still using gabapentin for neuropathy. I had foot surgery in 2015 and l had nerve pain so my surgeon put me on gabapentin and it wasn't once a day or twice a day. He said 3times a day.. Gabapentin does cause weight gain in some people. There is also the possibility of some swelling of the feet, lower legs, or hands. If you are unsteady or your feet, then please be extra cautious as gabapentin can worsen unsteadiness. For diabetic neuropathy, one of the most common types affecting the feet, gabapentin's results are mixed. Some patients report significant pain reduction, while others experience little to no improvement. This means you could be taking a medication with potential side effects without guaranteed relief. A very small percentage of people taking Neurontin may experience swelling of the hands, feet, ankles, or other extremity locations. Shallow or labored breathing may also occur. These are potentially life threatening reactions and medical help should be sought immediately. Gabapentin was shown to be better than placebo across all studies for IMMPACT outcomes. The review concentrated on gabapentin doses of 1,200 mg/d or greater and reported that doses at or above this threshold were reasonably effective for treatment of various neuropathic pain types. I sometimes have a little heat intolerance in hands and feet as well, but that’s usually due to external heat sources vs my body. But at the beginning of my Idiopathic PN journey, the heat and cold intolerance from just my body was almost unbearable. My only medication in 6 years for it had been Gabapentin. The authors conclude that gabapentin provides safe, effective pain relief in patients with diabetic neuropathy. Regular exercise, such as walking three times a week, can lower neuropathy pain, improve muscle strength and help control blood sugar levels. Gentle routines such as yoga and tai chi also might help. If you have painful neuropathy in your feet, you may want to try pool-based exercise such as swimming. Quit smoking. For example, this trial tells us nothing about how well gabapentin, amitriptyline, or carbamazepine would have performed. One thing Gabapentin does NOT help me with is numbness and the feeling of tight nerves in my hands and feet, but they do not disrupt my daily activities like my other aggravating symptoms did. Like Helpful Gabapentin has been shown to be effective in managing neuropathic pain in the feet, particularly in patients with diabetic neuropathy. It provides significant pain relief, improves quality of life, and is generally well-tolerated.
