Mostly it's working via inhibition of some excitatory neurotransmitters (though perhaps increasing excitatory neurotransmission against pain in the spinal cord). To increase GABA synthesis, it’s inhibits dopamine along with some others. My guess would be this is why some daily users report total loss of libido and/or sexual dysfunction from it. Unsure of how common a side effect is as I can’t really find the info on that. I take these exact meds as well. I take 300mg of gaba at night. I want to try to wean myself off of them now as I originally took them to help with the major anxiety from benzo withdrawal. But now im scared i will get bad withdrawal from gabapentin. It does help me sleep but i dont notice it helping much with anxiety throughout the day. This may affect your ability to drive or perform other activities. Other gabapentin side effects include edema (fluid buildup), weight gain, and eye problems, but these aren’t as common. Pregabalin/Lyrica is WAY better than Gabapentin/Neurontin. You don't need to take gigantic doses throughout the day and it isn't as confusing to dose either. I can take a couple hundred milligrams of Lyrics and feel great. It is definitely the successor of Gabapentin and clearly shows. GABA aka gamma-aminobutyric acid is NOT GabaPentin. GABA is the skeletal building block from which GabaPentin, PreGabalin/Lyrica and Baclofen are derived. Note that GABA is contained within the names of GabaPenti and PreGabalin. I tried it years ago, but don't recall much in the way of anxiety relief. With acute gabapentin dosing, the increase in GABA is predicated on the baseline GABA concentration. Whether chronic gabapentin treatment, which is required for its therapeutic effect, has a similar relationship with baseline GABA concentration is not known. In my past experience gabapentin anxiolysis does continue even after the initial somewhat euphoric, and sleepiness goes away. I recently found out about a tree bark called mulungu that massively helps with sleep. on the mulungu subreddit there is a post that recommends a combination of 5g lemon balm, 5 g passion flower and 5g mulungu in about 1lts of boiling water with some lime juice.
