It is a side effect of taking Gabapentin. I’ve never had it drop so low as to where I feel like passing out though. Is it only when you stand up or get out of bed? yes. I have low blood pressure and gabapentin makes it a bit more pronounced. I’m on Requip, 1 mg. I have not have side effects except when I was prescribed a higher dose and fainted from low blood pressure—same when a provider accidentally prescribed Mirapex instead of Requip (she didn’t notice and prescribed the same dose as Requip, but Mirapex is stronger so you need less). Gabapentin is used to control seizures, to treat nerve pain that can happen after having had shingles, and to treat a condition called restless legs syndrome. In addition to these FDA-approved uses, doctors sometimes prescribe gabapentin off-label. Oral and intravenous gabapentin can markedly attenuate blood pressure (BP) in hypertensive rats. The nucleus tractus solitarii (NTS) is the primary integrative center for cardiovascular control and other autonomic functions in the central nervous system. From what I've read gabapentin can lower blood pressure. I take my blood pressure multiple times daily for other issues and it's almost indiscernible. It may be more for you. Gabapentin can be used in elderly patients, but caution should be exercised due to age-related changes in renal function. A lower starting dose may be necessary to prevent overdose and accumulation of the drug in the body. Monitoring of kidney function is recommended. Gabapentin use in pediatric patients Yes, gabapentin can lower blood pressure. However, in the vast majority of people taking gabapentin, it does not lower blood pressure to a worrisome extent. A blood pressure of 113/64 is below average, but it is not at a worrisome level unless it is associated with any lightheadedness or dizziness. (Yes ik it isnt typically used for sleep. It's meant for ADHD and an old blood pressure medication, but it can work well for some. I would consider using this before using gaba ergic drugs Or a beta blocker (completely different to the above medications) that permeates the blood brain barrier. Is dizziness and low blood pressure an initial side effect that might go away with time as the body adapts to it ? At first they were super scary but as I got used to them and knew it was an attack and not a serious medical issue they were not as bad. Fast forward to early 2023. I had a wellness exam for my employer and had pretty high blood pressure. My last few trips to the doctor showed the same thing so I decided to see my GP to discuss my blood pressure. When I have too much Kratom my resting heart rate has gone as low as 40bpm. Blood pressure maybe 10 points lower than normal but blood ox is decent for my mild asthma. When I try to quit cold turkey no taper both my resting heart rate and blood pressure will rise dramatically but randomly. If I taper off and take a few days off then I seem to The other aspect might well be that you are in less pain so the body is treating you as less "sick", as being sick actually pushes blood pressure up. If these results DO confirm with a finger stick too, not just overnight CGM then its worth checking with the doctors etc, and checking if other meds need adjusting. The most common gabapentin (Neurontin) side effects are dizziness and drowsiness. This may affect your ability to drive or perform other activities. Other gabapentin side effects include edema (fluid buildup), weight gain, and eye problems, but these aren’t as common. I have been taking Gabapentin for about 6 years on & off at a dose of 200mg a day for panic attacks. It has usually always worked great. I have noticed blood pressure and heart rate increase when I take it & I have had to stop. I’m curious if anyone else experienced this? Research on rats has shown that gabapentin may lower blood pressure in those with high blood pressure (hypertension). Gabapentin has been shown to lower blood pressure acutely in hypertensive models, primarily through mechanisms involving the sympathetic nervous system and central nitric oxide signaling. However, its chronic use does not sustain these hypotensive effects and may even lead to adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Does anyone feel a connection between taking gabapentin and their hypertension? Or is there anything published on a connection? Wondering if my taking 100mg- 300mg/ day, at night, for mild foot neuropathy and to help me sleep better, is having an effect on my hypertension. Like it or not, it's one of our more benign medications that's considered a first-line option for neuropathic pain. Anything can be abused - we still have people trying to smoke banana peels - but that doesn't mean it's a bad option. Low-dose gabapentin has been a lifesaver for a lot of my patients, especially if they're relatively medication Today I'm supposed to start my 2x/day but I'm frankly a little worried because my heart rate has consistently been in the high 40s to low 50s at rest since yesterday (normally I'm 65-75). My blood pressure is still with normal range but definitely lower and I am getting dizzy when standing up. You seem to not understand that Placebos often cause very strong physical effects (Lower heart rate, lower pain, faster healing, higher serotonin, higher dopamin, lower cortisol, higher endorphins, higher Gaba, increased heartrate, increased blood pressure, lower blood pressure)
