Gabapentin is the only thing that helps the pain but it will do nothing for the numbness. Even Lyrica can't do that. I also take 9mg time release dilaudid 2 x a day and 2 mg dilaudid 2 to 4 times a day depending on pain. I started taking gabapentin for peripheral neuropathy almost a month ago. Over the last week my legs often go completely numb from the knee down. I can only assume it is the gabapentin. Has anyone else had this happen? Is it normal? I was told to take Gabapentin for numb feelings in my toes. I took one 300 mg tablet. I went to sleep and woke up feeling horrible. That was the last time I took a Gabapentin tablet. Unlike previous studies which used Gabapentin between 600-1800 mg/day (11-14), we only administered low doses of gabapentin (100 and 300 mg/day) which yielded similar beneficiary results. Patients reported no side effects and complications during gabapentin treatment and the drug was well tolerated. You're right, there aren't any cures for the numbness, and gabapentin can only dull the pain, which is also not curable. I'm taking 3600 mg a day for the pain and numbness in my feet, and it's not working very well. If you have nerve pain, burning, pins and needles, etc., you can try alpha Lipoic acid, Acetyl l carnitine and magnesium supplements. I am writing for my partner on Gabapentin - on this since 14 months - his numbness in left foot worse than ever but when talking to GP if this drug is the culprit answer, this is the only med for foot numbness and he had better increase. does anyone else have the vice like grip around the foot 24 hours daily driving him to dark dispair. But, I hope if you decide to decrease the neurontin to tell your doctor and of course do it very gradually as you probably already know. I have seen zero research that gabapentin helps with numbness and I have not heard anyone with the neuropathy numbness say it helped but there may be someone out there with a positive experience. Before I was diagnosed I had been dealing with the neuropathy numbness that started in my toes and had been in my feet for more than 20 years.
