Most people will end up taking gabapentin three times daily. However, to ensure a consistent level of gabapentin throughout the day, it's recommended to take the medication at even intervals, approximately every eight hours. Gabapentin capsules are usually taken orally three times a day (morning, afternoon, and evening) with plenty of water, with or without food. Gabapentin is available in 100 mg, 300 mg, and 400 mg capsules, and in 600 mg and 800 mg tablets. Children ≥12 years and Adolescents: Initial: 300 mg 3 times daily; titrate dose upward if needed; usual maintenance dose: 900 to 1,800 mg/day divided into 3 doses daily; doses up to 2,400 mg/day divided into 3 doses daily are well tolerated long-term; maximum daily dose: Doses up to 3,600 mg/day have been tolerated in short-term studies.
