I needed a refill on the gabapentin and it took the pharmacy like 4 days to fill it. I definitely was experiencing withdrawal symptoms and it kind of scared me, but the gabapentin does genuinely help the nerve pain. Is there an alternative for nerve pain that isn’t narcotics or gabapentin? While gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica) share many similarities, there are a few things that set them apart. We’ll highlight seven key differences between these medications below. 1. Pregabalin is FDA approved for more uses than gabapentin, but both are often used off-label. I can no longer take Gabapentin, for an entire litany of reasons. So now I'm trying to explore any relatively safe alternative I can have prescribed. I am genuinely not going to try (ever) Pregab, Lyrica, Phenibut or any sketchy type. Pregabalin is Gabapentin alternatives for epilepsy, nerve pain, and anxiety. Other drugs for nerve pain include topiramate, baclofen, tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline and Dosulepin, and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors such as duloxetine. Natural alternatives to gabapentin? My doctor is offering me gabapentin for a nerve problem (he thinks my nerves are firing when they shouldn't). I prefer to avoid prescription medications so I was wondering if there are any good supplements that can help with nerve problems? Compare Gabapentin head-to-head with other drugs for uses, ratings, cost, side effects and interactions. Gabapentin alternatives Hello! My Siamese mix 9yo cat has been taking gabapentin for a little over a year (100mg a day) after discovering recurring utis caused by stress (FLUTD more specifically FIC is what I’ve been told I think) and it has done her great, she’s never had those stressful uti symptoms since but honestly I feel weary about This seems like an opportunity to see if anything else can replace the (pretty effective) gabapentin. So far I am looking into. Any other thoughts or suggestions? My sole goal is to basically be able to sleep at night, and not get the cramps that sometimes come the minor muscle spasms in my calves/legs when not on gabapentin. Hello! This IS NOT the subreddit for discussion of how to get high or otherwise abuse GP. Gabapentin is helpful to some people with specific pain problems as many in the comments are suggesting. However if you are getting TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) to treat depression and/or anxiety keep in mind gabapentin can actually reduce the efficacy of the treatment. So I'm curious -- for anyone who tried gabapentin for nerve pain and it didn't work for them, either because of side effects or because it just didn't help, what medication did you try next that _did_ actually help? It's not clear to me which one of the many alternatives would be the one to try next (nortriptyline, pregabalin, cymbalta, etc.) I'm on gabapentin now 600mg a day (3 x 100 during the day and 300 at night) and the Dr's with my provider are suggesting remeron (cymbalta) I'm reluctant. Gabapentin (Neurontin) is not a good medication for pain relief. If it was, everyone in pain would just take it. A lot of doctors seem to think it is a direct substitute for opioids though. And it’s leading to a lot of suffering. A doctor first gave me gabapentin back in 2012. That’s when I started having debilitating pain around my right ribs. The Gabapentin is renowned for its weight gain, but would a lower dose lighten the impact as I am 5ft 2in and 12st 11lbs and this is way too heavy for my body frame! Which is all as affecting me walking upstairs, walking to the bus-stop and all so getting in-and-of vehicles etc. Need some alternatives please. Thank-you. TLDR: Are there any better alternatives to gabapentin that also maybe don’t cause as much of the brain fog/cognitive impairment/fatigue issues? Or do all the types of medications that work on similar brain areas / work on anti-anxiety, depression, etc. usually affect cognitive performance / executive functioning to some degree?
