Many people are on this medicine and all sharing they are having side effects of memory loss and balance problems. I hope & pray you are able to withdraw from this & find something else that doesn't have these side effects. Gabapentin (Neurontin, Gralise, Horizant) is a medicine used to help manage certain epileptic seizures. It also is used to relieve pain for some conditions, such as shingles. Dizziness and drowsiness are common side effects of gabapentin. Some other possible side effects include weight gain and trouble with movement. I also have neuropathy loss of feeling and tingling in my feet up through my calves. I have been prescribed gabapentin and have tried it however the side effects are bad for me and I felt no real benefit from the gabapentin. It took almost 2 weeks after that before those mining explosions stopped. For me, I have to stay on gabapentin at this high dose and accept side effects. If you can do without gabapentin and you don't like side effects, do that. I do sleep better these last 5 years since I started gabapentin. Two common classes of drugs have been linked to dementia. Fortunately, there are alternatives to both. If you're worried about developing dementia, you've probably memorized the list of things you should do to minimize your risk—eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, getting adequate sleep, and keeping your mind and soul engaged. Common side effects of gabapentin include: flulike symptoms such as fever or body aches. Rare but serious side effects of gabapentin include: changes in memory, ability to concentrate, or personality. Gabapentin may cause breathing problems in people who use opioid pain medicines and those with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Brand names of gabapentin include Horizant®, Gralise® and Neurontin®. What is gabapentin approved for? Gabapentin is used to: Prevent and control partial seizures. Gabapentin can be used in adults and children age 3 and older who have partial seizures. Relieve nerve pain following shingles in adults. I have CIPN and along with gabapentin I take Duloxetine and I notice if I miss a dose of that, im miserable ALL day. Duloxetine and Gabapentin go great together for me. It is also called Cymbalta but I have been taking both now for about. 2 years come February 2025. I tried Pregabalin and had HORRIBLE side effects. Long term use increases dementia risk 70%, but I need 1800 mg/day to not have horrid effects. Gabapentin is used to help control partial seizures (convulsions) in the treatment of epilepsy. This medicine cannot cure epilepsy and will only work to control seizures for as long as you continue to take it. Gabapentin is also used to manage a condition called postherpetic neuralgia, which is pain that occurs after shingles.
