I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s and buspar. Minimal help. Supplemented with klonopin (posted this recently as a topic). I just started using 300 mg gabapentin (100 mg in morning and 200 mg) in evening). Seems to be helping. Anyone else using it? Dog2 was on Gabapentin when she had pancreatitis. For her, it is definitely not the right drug. She had the usual side effects and some of the rarer side effects. YMMV. Dog2 has a liver defect and some other health issues -- lots of things have side effects or weird interactions with her that are perfectly ok for other dogs. I have been prescribed 300 mg doses of gabapentin that I am approved to take up to three times a day for anxiety. I’m having a really bad bout of anxiety lately so I’m just trying to figure out the ideal timing on these doses. At present I'm taking 400mg 2x daily. My dr wants me to go up to 400mg 3x a day. Is anyone else taking this dosage? My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. Has anyone taken it off label for anxiety? If so, what was your optimum dosage? And how long did it take to start working? Thank you! I just got prescribed 300mg of Gabapentin 3x a day, with the possibility to increase to 4x a day if needed. This is for long term management of anxiety but reading about everyone’s experience online is really stressing me out. Welcome to /r/gabapentin, here we primarily discuss issues pertaining to the medical, prescribed use of Gabapentin, Lyrica and Phenibut, as well as other Gaba related drugs. This IS NOT the subreddit for discussion of how to get high or otherwise abuse GP. Pregabalin/Lyrica is WAY better than Gabapentin/Neurontin. You don't need to take gigantic doses throughout the day and it isn't as confusing to dose either. I can take a couple hundred milligrams of Lyrics and feel great. Yup.prescribed. 900mg/day but usually only take 600 but with benzos too ( clonazepam and temazepam ) .. I was on lexapro for a few years which helped greatly but eventually the side effects outweighted any benefits the gabapentin helps a little but not that much and the weight gain is bad and hard to loose but thats the only side effect i get. It looks like the dosage for your pet is at 15mg/kg based on the information provided; gabapentin dosing can go up to 40mg/kg depending on what it's being used for (higher dosages are typically used to relieve situational fear/anxiety/stress), so your vet has not overdosed your dog - pain management doses are typically in the lower therapeutic Iguess it really depends on the person and what issues they may have mentally/physically or both in my case I'm at 1200 mg a day 300mg morning lunch and bed time but sometimes Iskip a dose and take .5 / 1mg Xanax (I'm trying to get Off) my anxiety is up and down But 1200 mg a day For ME is helping anxiety is about 8/10 if it's a Good day The research that has been done and the literature on the Gabapentin for anxiety is actually a pretty high dose upwards of 2400-3600mg to actually be chronically effective from what I’ve read. I never want to utilize said dose. Ask your vet, but you may want to try lowering the dose 300 mg, not 600mg. That seems like a pretty big dose unless you have a massive boy and even then, it’s a high starting dose. You can always work up to 600mg. Gabapentin also comes in 100mg capsules so you can tweak the dosing to something in between as well. The typical dosage for gabapentin in treating anxiety ranges from 100 mg to 300 mg daily. Some common side effects of gabapentin for anxiety are dizziness, tiredness, and unsteadiness. Gabapentin’s off-label uses include treating generalized anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. Gabapentin is actually becoming more and more dangerous. Even for people that take it for seizures and Nero issues. There are long term effects that cause issues (there’s research on this). For me if your on it for anxiety it’s not a good thing it is not FDA approved, I experienced some of the worst side effects from it. I found gabapentin would require multiple doses per day for full day coverage for anxiety, but that's me. Pregabalin on the other hand I could take just one dose at bedtime, and pregabalin is almost fully bioavailable at any dose, and I'd get the effects all day and sleep well, too. It helps me with anxiety quite a bit but also has other side effects like brain fog and fatigue mainly. I’ve been on it for 2 years. 1000 mg a day. It works well, but recently it seems to be making me feel worse overall and more anxious and irritable. I take 600mgs of gabapentin for anxiety 3xs a day in addition to 2 beta blockers that are also supposed to help ease the anxiety AND 1mg of ativan. The gabapentin is what they put me on most recently and it didn't seem to help much until my dose was significantly increased. I do very much believe it's helping now. I just started Gabapentin for anxiety. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well. Because doctors prescribe gabapentin off-label for anxiety, there’s no specific dosage for treating anxiety symptoms.
