Welcome to /r/gabapentin, here we primarily discuss issues pertaining to the medical, prescribed use of Gabapentin, Lyrica and Phenibut, as well as other Gaba related drugs. This IS NOT the subreddit for discussion of how to get high or otherwise abuse GP. GABAGoodness is devoted to the discussion of all GABAergics, Gabapentnoids and VDCC inhibitors such as Pregabalin, Gabapentin, Phenibut, Carisoprodol, GHB, Benzodiazepines, Barbiturates, and more! This is a great place to ask general or recreational questions, get harm reduction advice, or share your experience with withdrawal syndromes. The people who say it's the next opioid or benzo crisis are ridiculous. Gabapentin is so much safer and is barely rewarding or addictive unlike many other medications we can prescribe. Sure you need to taper when stopping but that's true of many medications. The olive oil is mostly unsaturated fat, making it an excellent choice for increasing absorption of Gabapentin. You need to take it with a meal to initiate the breaking down of the Gabapentin. You can't take the Gabapentin all at once, because the bioavailability decreases with higher amounts taken at once due to saturation of transporters. If you're new to gabapentin you can take it as needed but the dose may need to be a bit higher than 100 mg for good results. If you take it regular it can build a tolerance depending on how much. Or taking it regular at around 600mg doses for a newbie to it as needed can work as well. As far as gabapentin or Neurontin goes, I take 300mg twice a day, my husband takes 100 mg a day. He takes it for diabetes neuropathy and to prevent phantom pain from his BKA of his right leg. I take it for cervical neuropathy and radiculopathy. Immediately after taking 300mg of Gabapentin, the weight lifted. I was on 300mg twice a day. My psychiatrist upped it to 600mg twice a day after a month. This stuff really works for anxiety. Oh, I'm 62 years old if there are any older people who need help. i have been in gabapentin for a little over one month. the VA started me at 300 tid, then 400, then 600, and now i am at 800 tid. i have definitely gained some fat but i so stay very active and eat consciously. my pain and anxiety are definitely lower and my sleep has greatly improved. i was prescribed gabapentin to stay off alcohol and phenibut I'm a lifetime insomniac who's taken and withdrawn from many sleep meds. I've been taking between 100-300mg gabapentin as needed for sleep for about 4 months now. On the higher end of the dosage, I get decent sleep for about 6-7 hrs. I combine 100mg with weed sometimes and it works OK but not nearly as well as 300mg. No morning or daytime Gabapentin works wonders for my anxiety. I take 900mg at a time (3 300mg capsules) It’s short acting so I’m prescribed it 3 times daily. I think it can be addicting but if your taking it like prescribed, I wouldn’t worry too much. Gabapentin works for nerve pain. I use it at 1800 mg daily in combination with Nortriptyline 50mg for miserable postherpetic neuralgia, the nerve damage that can result from shingles. Gabapentin needs 3 weeks to kick in and for acclimatization. As you titrate up to 1800 mg, different side effects kick in. I take 100-300 mg as needed for anxiety (panic and anxiety attacks only - daily anxiety is managed with Buspar). It works well for me without any rebound effects but I may take one or two doses max a week. We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us. The instructions simply said take as needed and I am somewhat sceptical of this as it’s my understanding that Gabapentin is not like an analgesic which you do take on an as needed basis. I thought that for Gabapentin, once you start the meds, you continue at least until the meds is finished. Can Gabapentin really be taken as needed for anxiety like a benzo or does it need to be taken daily like SSRI’s to work? Anyways, I digress. Gabapentin for me does seem to help with anxiety when I take a single dose when needed. They say it takes a few weeks of daily dosing to get benefit, but.it doesn't seem that way. I will take 400 or 800mg when needed (when I'm feeling like a panic attack is about to happen), and it calms me down enough. Can’t get my hands on any gabapentin or Xanax rn but I need something to slow my heart rate and stop me from it's been a few years since I've been bothered with it, but it's back. the doctors that I have now won't prescribe controlled substances, so she is giving me this. after reading all the posts here, I'm wondering if you can take as needed especially since I don't suffer every night. My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. Has anyone taken it off label for anxiety? If so, what was your optimum dosage? And how long did it take to start working? Thank you! HOW TO PROPERLY USE GABAPENTIN: Drink each down with a decent amount of fizzy soda. The acidity helps it absorb in the stomach. Trust me. Do this. Once you've taken the last pill, have a nice meal. This drastically aids your body's absorption.
