Does anyone feel like they get brain zaps or have jerks? Gaba makes me feel like I am withdrawing from a SSRI or something. Normal & common side effect as this is an anti-seizure drug. It gets better with time and once you are on stable dose, on and off this side effect can again popup. Brain zaps a very common with ssri's and other serotonin drugs, I've never heard of anyone that only takes gabapentin having them. If I were you, I'd talk to my doctor about could be causing them, it's unlikely to be gabapentin imo. I’m getting brain zaps at night as I’m trying to fall asleep. I was on 300 mg of gabapentin every night for about six months. Thought it would be fine to just stop. Some are more notorious than others for the brain zaps (venlafaxine, fluoxetine, and paroxetine). Ironically missing a cymbalta dose or quitting it without tapering properly also can give brain zaps. If yours are truly very painful you should probably seek out a neurologist sooner than later. There's meds for nerve pain. Before trying gabapentin I'd suggest asking your Dr about other things to try first tho. One theory for brain zaps is that they are related to a drop in a “calming chemical” in the brain known as GABA. Quitting an antidepressant or certain other drugs (such as benzodiazepines and Adderall) can cause a temporary drop in GABA levels. I WOULD NOT take gabapentin, a highly addictive, painful to withdraw from to try to treat brain zaps though for sure. You do you, but if it were me, I'd rather try getting off the Viibryd than trying to treat side effects of it with gabapentin. Only my second time taking gabapentin recreationally so it’s still pretty new wondering if anyone knows why this is happening l? Followed the Yes, gabapentin may cause brain zaps as the medication tends to alter the amount of neurotransmitters in your brain. However, it is not considered a common side effect and it mostly occurs in people who don’t seem to tolerate gabapentin well. My mother and I both take gabapentin and neither one of us have ever experienced brain shocks from it. I went back and reviewed the list of potential side effects for this medication and that is not one listed. However, I would really suggest you check with your doctor or pharmacist about it. i’ve been titrating off lamotrigine and got put on gabapentin. in the AM when i take my first dose i’m fine during the day. i start to get brain zaps during the later part of the day and even after i’ve taken my gabapentin and seroquel for the night. anyone else experience this? does it go away with more time on the medication or dosage If it’s making you stutter and twitch complete with brain zaps I mean it doesn’t sound right for you. And a side note if you just took 1200mg at once (it’s really not going to do much because it had decreasing bioavailability the higher the dose btw) and adding in subs when you don’t even know how the Gabapentin will be making you feel I (38F) started gabapentin (300mg to start, now at 600mg) for my chronic pain issues after a long taper off of Cymbalta. I’m having what I can only describe as brain zaps but I thought those only happened when you stop taking meds not start. On days that you literally cannot tolerate the brain zaps is highly recommend a glass of red wine. I know many of you aren’t going to like this recommendation but I found that on days I couldn’t tolerate brain zaps coming off of Prozac when I did a couple of years ago. Yes! I have had Covid for 8 days now. The brain zaps are happening. I am currently on an SSRI, and have been for over 20 years. I have been taking them like normal, so the Covid must be affecting the serotonin levels somehow. I got brain zaps, really what it felt like, jolts of electricity through my head. I felt confused, listless and like I could not concentrate, it did help the pain and I gave it up after I could tolerate the nerve pain with numbing the area and my Vicodin.
