We had a cat who did that, although I never knew the name. She wasn’t a healthy puss and our vet said it was likely a sign of pain. When we started her on gabapentin, she did it less. She wasn’t a lip licker though. One of our other cats licked his lips just before he’d puke. He was such a smart boy. They tried a few different meds, but I react terribly to most things- last one being gabapentin which made me depressed and unmotivated, although it helped the 24/7 clenching and the pain. I'd rather be in pain and happy than pain free and depressed Botox injections are the only thing that helped, but it didn’t stop. SSRI/SNRI made it worse. Didn’t notice any difference with clonazepan, or gabapentin, or thc/cbd, or tizanidine. I just use a soft bite guard. ETA - I clench, I don’t grind. (Read that as you wish 😉🤣) Just curious if anyone has had any success in using medication to prevent the bruxism and headaches. I tried topamax but had to stop due to side effects. My doctor wants me to try gabapentin next but it has a ton of side effects from what I’ve read. We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us. In addition to trigeminal neuropathy, I also have developed bruxism and the grinding at night is killing me. I wake up with a horrific head and face pain and actually both gabapentin and nortriptyline seem to put my grinding in hyperdrive. My Doc wants me to give Lyrica a try but I'm going to ask for the Klonopin for the bruxism. With regard to the information provided on medications potentially attenuating sleep bruxism and/or awake bruxism, it should be stressed that bruxism only requires management in case of severe negative health outcomes, such as severe mechanical tooth wear (attrition) and high‐intensity pain of masticatory muscles and/or temporomandibular bruxism may have sponta-neously resolved with continued use of venlafaxine, even without the addition of gabapentin. However, the improvement in bruxism and anxiety were clearly temporally related to ini-tiating this treatment. Cutting out caffiene has helped, and gabapentin seems to reduce it slightly. Did you have bruxism before starting the gabapentin? For me it was closely linked to my gabapentin use (2019-2021) as well as when I was using the GBL. These also will resolve, especially if they coincided with the benzo or gabapentin use. The heartburn is a bit tricky, as it is related to many factors. Gabapentin is really in a class of its own.. I'd call it a disbenzopiate haha. It has the warmth and optimism that you get from opiates with a nice anxiolytic effect on par with Xanax. That's great and all but the real reason I use Gabapentin is for the dissociative effects. It feels very much like MXE if you've ever done that. Only one study have compared occlusal splints versus a medication doses gabapentin, and found that both treatments reduced similarly the muscle activity associated with sleep bruxism after 2 month of therapy . I recently discovered that my sleep bruxism is improved by gabapentin at bedtime. My provider said he prescribes it for that. Has anyone else noticed an improvement? I'm currently taking amitryptaline, and from what I've read online with studies it's been shown as an infective treatment for bruxism and may even increase it. Idiopathic bruxism is estimated to affect between 5% and 20% of the adult population. 1,4,5 Age at onset is typically between age 10 and 20, and children tend to be affected at similar rates compared to adults. 1,4 Awake bruxism is more commonly observed in women, 4 where no sex preference is observed in sleep bruxism. 1 Children of sleep I have been taking 1500-1800mg Gabapentin for 10 days and it has magically decreased my clenching by at least 75%. My Jaw is now looser than ever and I don’t wake up as tight. My issue has always been extremely tense muscles around my joint. Bruxism is reported as a side effect among people who take Gabapentin (gabapentin), especially for people who are female, 60+ old, have been taking the drug for 1 - 6 months also take Ambien, and have Narcolepsy. Hi there M1 here, I was doing some research around ssri bruxism and possible use of buspar to relieve it. I saw a psych and NP comment on a post on the askpsych subreddit about also using gabapentin or pregab instead. The doctor gave me gabapentin and it worked 100x better than the opioids. The pain went from searing burning flossing-with-razor-wire to a mild tickle immediately, then after a few weeks it is gone. If I stop taking the gabapentin it comes back.
