Hi there, I have noticed that Gabapentin or Pregabalin helps me a great deal with my lifelong anxiety disorder after a lot of other medication I'm struggling with the withdrawal symptoms from effexor, and my NP prescribed gabapentin to help with the anxiety and burning nerves pain. Not once did she say that I would have to go through all of this again when stopping gabapentin. I’ve been diagnosed with bipolar 2 and Gabapentin has saved my life (along with the other slew of meds). But my anxiety, for the most part, is gone. I take 800mg 3x’s daily. My son had suffered from depression and anxiety for many years. When he developed severe back pain, gabapentin was added to the drugs he was already taking, which included a benzodiazepine. Within days, he was dead. Benzodiazepine and gabapentin should never be mixed. Evidence does not support the use of gabapentin for bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder (MDD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), stimulant use disorder, or opioid withdrawal. Gabapentin can cause severe depression and suicidal thoughts in some people. At one point a black box warning was looked into because of this. You should talk to your doctor about the depression, because you are having a serious side effect from the medication. Been taking 300mg for anxiety for the past 4 months along with Klonopin. My Dr. has try to put me on 4 different antidepressants and none have work for me so I’m wondering if Gabapentin could be the cause of my depression meds not working for me. Most definitely. Hey, so I had some gabapentin from some time ago prescribed by my doc for my depression, social anxiety and psychosomatic pain (or whatever it is). Why Gabapentin? Because I have been completely therapy resistant to all the SSRIs, SNRIs and one MAOI as well as a tricyclic. I‘m also in behavioral therapy right now, just to let you know. Gabapentin and Pregabalin are a godsend if used responsibly. There is no other drug that has such a positive benefit/side effect profile for me. Almost every other drug gives me some kind of rebound anxiety and/or depression, but not pregabalin. I feel that gabapentin causes me major mental issues with depression, anxiety, and all the not so fun symptoms that come woth it. Due to this I am in the process of tapering off as much as I can. I was on 2700 a day and am down to 900 a day now which I think is the lowest I can handle due to the pain. Hello! I have MDD and GAD with obsessive thinking. I’m on Trintellix 20mg and Gabapentin 1,200mg/day, which my doc put me on for GAD. At the Everyone is different. Gabapentin stopped my intrusive thoughts that would lead to anxiety & panic attacks. The thoughts would start as soon as I woke up & I would fight them all day long. It made it very hard to fall asleep or to go back to sleep after waking.
