There's a slow release gabapentin called Gralise. The idea is that you take it at night to avoid the drowsiness and still get the benefit of it during the day. ETA: My dog Millie takes Gabapentin and Trazadone prior to vet visits as she gets super squirrelly and hard to control. It just makes her sleepy. No negative side effects aside from that. It's a pretty common medicine. My last dog was on Gabapentin during her final years due to pain from cancer and she tolerated it very well. Make you dizzy rather than drowsy. Yes. I usually take 5 600mgs then sleep but i take em one or half at a time. Would really low dose act more like a stimulant? like with Phenibut? The whole time it felt like he doesn't want to admit it could be the Gabapentin. He still made me pay the "emergency check-up" fee, even though he didn't do anything but say it's not the Gabapentin. Update 2: After stopping Gabapentin dose, my dog is slowly regaining motor functions. Drowsiness and tiredness are common side effects of the gabapentin which may decrease with continued use. If this becomes intolerable as in effecting your work please discuss with the prescribing doctor. Side effects for me on Gabapentin did not include any weight gain. Mine were more typical such as drowsiness, unsteadiness on feet when first getting up and foggy thinking. These dissipated as my body became more used to the 2100mg/day dose - split into 3 times a day. I've taken Gabapentin before and had been reluctant to try them again because of the drowsiness, fatigue, and general weirdness I felt the last time, but the pain got the better of me and so I capitulated. I take 1200mg 3 times a day and so far the sharp shoulder pain has gone, however the tingling has not.
