The research that has been done and the literature on the Gabapentin for anxiety is actually a pretty high dose upwards of 2400-3600mg to actually be chronically effective from what I’ve read. I never want to utilize said dose. I'm very sensitive to meds so he started me on 100 mg 3xday. Depending on how I feel, he will up dosage in 2 wks. Will I feel anything on this low dose? 1 like, 18 replies To your question as needed, yes some people can and do take it as needed especially for anxiety but usually only at a low dose. I take it for neuropathic pain and have a base amount I have to take to get relief but when I have pain spikes I can increase as needed and then drop back down (900-1200mg a day is my norm). This is under doctors Logically I know everyone has experienced this in some form and as my husband said, “it’s over and done with.” But in my mind, its not. I feel bad for what I did, can’t stop thinking about it, etc. It’s made me anxious enough to need a Klonopin. My psych has mentioned Gabapentin for anxiety but said it can be sedating. Hi folks. I've been prescribed gabapentin for anxiety 100mg x 3 per day. I took it for a week and didn't even notice any slight difference. I know it's a low dose but not sure if I need to try higher doses without seeing any effect. Does gabapentin supposed to work immediately for anxiety or need to build up like for neuropathic pain? I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s and buspar. Minimal help. Supplemented with klonopin (posted this recently as a topic). I just started using 300 mg gabapentin (100 mg in morning and 200 mg) in evening). Seems to be helping. Anyone else using it? I've seen others use a lot of gabapentin and/or pregabalin for anxiety, sometimes scheduled sometimes PRN. I think it's good to avoid benzos. It's probably best if people can learn health coping skills and not need PRNs, but I'd rather have gabapentin than xanax TID. Gabapentin works wonders for my anxiety. I take 900mg at a time (3 300mg capsules) It’s short acting so I’m prescribed it 3 times daily. I think it can be addicting but if your taking it like prescribed, I wouldn’t worry too much. I just started Gabapentin for anxiety. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well. I took gabapentin for neuropathy & fibromyalgia and never noticed it doing much of anything for either one (or my anxiety)—it just made me gain a lot of weight. The thing that actually stopped my frequent panic attacks was prozac, and now that I'm medicated for ADHD, my anxiety has gone down even further. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. GABA aka gamma-aminobutyric acid is NOT GabaPentin. GABA is the skeletal building block from which GabaPentin, PreGabalin/Lyrica and Baclofen are derived. Note that GABA is contained within the names of GabaPenti and PreGabalin. It is most COMMONLY used as an anti-convulsant (but so are lots of mood stabilizers!) and neuropathic pain, but can be used for anxiety. Normally I'd only use it as an adjunctive med in combination with another medication for anti-anxiety, though. Although evidence is limited, some studies show gabapentin can help with anxiety symptoms. One 2020 review suggests gabapentin may help with different types of situational anxiety, including: But I think it’s really something you need to try in order to know. I tried it hoping for help with a lot of things, anxiety the main thing, and it didn’t help with anything. I felt really not good the entire month I tried it, I probably didn’t try it long enough to know the proper effects. But I couldn’t deal with it. It works well for me without any rebound effects but I may take one or two doses max a week.
