I take 600mgs of gabapentin for anxiety 3xs a day in addition to 2 beta blockers that are also supposed to help ease the anxiety AND 1mg of ativan. The gabapentin is what they put me on most recently and it didn't seem to help much until my dose was significantly increased. I do very much believe it's helping now. You should call your vet. No one on reddit can assess what your dog needs, how large they are, what breed, the nature of the injury, etc etc from this post. For what it's worth, I give my 30 lb dog ~300mg of gabapentin for anxiety as needed (like around the 4th of July) as recommended by my vet. HBe For Anxiety "This is the best medication for anxiety that I've ever tried. You know what it makes me feel like? I’ve struggled finding a medication that works for my anxiety for quite a while now. I was prescribed Gabapentin 300mg 3X a day. The first two weeks were absolutely amazing, it was the best I had felt in a long time. I was using Gabapentin for anxiety/recreationally and asked my doc to switch me to lyrica because I thought it would be more recreational but lyrica made me feel shitty and I felt like I almost had a seizure off 250mg lyrica. I had increased anxiety, felt weird, and was getting weird muscle twitches and body jerks. I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s and buspar. Minimal help. Supplemented with klonopin (posted this recently as a topic). I just started using 300 mg gabapentin (100 mg in morning and 200 mg) in evening). Seems to be helping. Anyone else using it? So I went to drugs.com reading reviews for anxiolytics and stumbled on gabapentin, which had pages and pages of people saying it works incredibly. I got a prescription for it and haven't had any anxiety at all since taking the first pill. A patient came to me on 4800 mg of gabapentin plus an SSRI for long-standing anxiety and panic. Over a long period of time, a gradual taper and 200 mg per day of pregabalin was much more effective for her. She remained on that dose stably for many years. Gabapentin is helpful to some people with specific pain problems as many in the comments are suggesting. The thoughts would start as soon as I woke up & I would fight them all day long. It made it very hard to fall asleep or to go back to sleep after waking. Yup.prescribed. 900mg/day but usually only take 600 but with benzos too ( clonazepam and temazepam ) .. I was on lexapro for a few years which helped greatly but eventually the side effects outweighted any benefits the gabapentin helps a little but not that much and the weight gain is bad and hard to loose but thats the only side effect i get. Gabapentin reduced my anxiety tremendously. And I had it bad. But it all comes down to biochemistry and what it is what is causing the anxiety. I think a mistake people make is that if it doesn’t help at a low dose they raise the dose super high which can cause lots of side effects and make getting off hard. I have been prescribed 200/300mg up to 3x a day and it’s good for masking anxiety sometimes but then you get used to it and when you feel your anxiety unmuted again you want to take another gabapentin. i try to use it twice a day, once in the AM once in the PM but it doesn’t make me super tired it just give me a little bit of a cushion to relax onto when I need it (cptsd etc). i’m not Gabapentin has an average rating of 7.9 out of 10 from a total of 452 reviews for the off-label treatment of Anxiety. 75% of reviewers reported a positive experience, while 15% reported a negative experience. I never want to utilize said dose. This subreddit claims to have every side effect possible from Gabapentin and Drugs.com reviews act like it’s one of the best anxiety medications to exist. I agree with neither of these viewpoints. I don’t think Gabapentin is good long term though as it supposedly blocks the formation of new brain synapses and lowers your grey matter.
