Strangely enough, it's not because of bipolar; I have since developed some autoimmune disease, and it turns out the Gabapentin was aiding me with associated neuropathy. When I tried to reduce my dosage again, it came rushing in. I was prescribed gabapentin for fibromyalgia pain before even getting diagnosed with bipolar, but I find it actually really does help my anxiety. I take 300 mg 3 times a day and that's an effective dose for me. Gabapentin may cause side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and dizziness. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and seek medical attention if experiencing serious side effects or changes in mood or behavior. Gabapentin is prescribed by healthcare professionals and should only be taken under medical supervision. While gabapentin is frequently used in practice for a wide array of psychiatric diagnoses, its use is evidence-based for only a few indications. Multiple RCTs have shown gabapentin to be ineffective for bipolar disorder. There is insufficient evidence to recommend the use of gabapentin for MDD, GAD, PTSD, or OCD. I don’t know anything about it for bipolar, but my dog takes 300 mg of gabapentin twice a day for chronic pain. It has some anti-anxiety properties to it too, but not strong. It was a little sedating when he was first on it, but he’s past that now. I've somehow not experienced any withdrawal symptoms either. Recently though they tried to switch me to Lamictal and completely dropped the Gabapentin. I had the rash/ulcer side effect and I'm curious if going cold turkey off Gaba is why. Regardless, Gabapentin just full on stopped working for me and instead was causing me to go manic at night. 13 votes, 44 comments. I have read that it hasn’t been proven to work for bipolar, but it does work for the anxiety that may come from bipolar Gabapentin appears to have acute anti-manic and anti-depressant properties as an adjunctive agent for refractory bipolar illness. Prospective double-blind studies are needed to further delineate its acute efficacy when used as monotherapy and its prophylactic efficacy as monotherapy or in conjuction I was also put on gabapentin for my anxiety related to my bipolar disorder. I was having severe anxiety and was getting super irritated during the day for no reason. Spoke to my psych about it and she said it’s likely from the anxiety from my bipolar disorder. I've been on gabapentin for quite a few years now and at first it is going to make you feel a bit loopy and drugged up I found that that subsided after a few weeks and now can't imagine not being able to grab my Gabapentin bottle it has been a lifesaver in a moment where I'm starting to feel Extreme Rage or like I just can't handle it like I'm Research indicates that Gabapentin is good at lowering the highs, but though it can pull one out of deep depression, it's not as affective at pulling ppl out of low-grade depression on its own. I have been on HIGH doses of Gabapentin for 11 years, and have not once experienced hypomania in that time. However, I live in a constant state of the Gabapentin actually classified as an anti-convulsant, with its first use being for seizures. Its said to act as an antipsychotic when prescribed alongside an antipsychotic medication, enhancing the effects (mine being Seroquel). I have been on Vraylar for almost 3 years, and have recently slow slid into anxiety and then a moderate feeling depression. Gabapentin helped the anxiety but my doctor thought I was describing a depression (low energy, anticipatory anxiety about going out and doing things, some loss of enjoyment of activities). I take 600mgs of gabapentin for anxiety 3xs a day in addition to 2 beta blockers that are also supposed to help ease the anxiety AND 1mg of ativan. The gabapentin is what they put me on most recently and it didn't seem to help much until my dose was significantly increased. I do very much believe it's helping now. my psychiatrist just upped my gabapentin 2 weeks ago lol. it's literally the only reason I can sleep ( when mixed with 2 other anxiety meds as well ) because it finally lets sleep medication do something instead of me being an insomniac & now I take it 2 times a day otherwise, too, because the other anxiety meds I've tried when mixed with my mood stablizer have made me angry instead of calmed Hi all. Since Caplyta is new, and after searching around here and not finding many reports of experience, I thought I would post mine. I am 58 years old, and a physician. I was only diagnosed at 53yo. I have always suffered from horrible bipolar depression. My bipolar symptoms took more of form of depression with bouts of extreme agitation. Gabapentin has an average rating of 8.5 out of 10 from a total of 138 reviews for the off-label treatment of Bipolar Disorder. 81% of reviewers reported a positive experience, while 9% reported a negative experience. Since SSRI's are mostly contraindicated for bipolar patients (for me, at the least), I'm currently taking gabapentin (off label) to treat the anxiety affiliated with my OCD. I'm wondering if anyone is taking/had taken gabapentin, if he/she noticed any improvement with his/her anxiety, and how long it took before noticing a difference. For bipolar disorder, four double-blind RCTs investigating gabapentin, and no double-blind RCTs investigating pregabalin, were identified. A quantitative synthesis could not be performed due to Saw a psychiatrist today. After my talk about depression, impulsive suicidality, and ineffectiveness of meds past (including pretty much all the mood stabilizers) she prescribed gabapentin for mood stabilization. This was left field for me. Didn't see if coming. Any experience or knowledge of gabapentin for mood stabilization?
