My understanding with the gabapentin vs. Pregabalin (Lyrica) is that Lyrica is much more immediately bio available than gabapentin. So it hits you faster and with the full intensity of the dose rather than gabapentin, which has less bioavailability and a slower build and release time, requiring more frequent dosing if taken throughout the day. Research indicates that Gabapentin is good at lowering the highs, but though it can pull one out of deep depression, it's not as affective at pulling ppl out of low-grade depression on its own. I have been on HIGH doses of Gabapentin for 11 years, and have not once experienced hypomania in that time. However, I live in a constant state of the Gabapentin and Pregabalin are a godsend if used responsibly. There is no other drug that has such a positive benefit/side effect profile for me. Almost every other drug gives me some kind of rebound anxiety and/or depression, but not pregabalin. In fact, there is a nice afterglow the day after. Evidence does not support the use of gabapentin for bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder (MDD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), stimulant use disorder, or opioid withdrawal. I was on Ritalin as a child and Adderall and both I did great on. I haven't been able to get it prescribed to me as an adult though. They treat me for depression and severe anxiety. If they would fix my adhd I'd be so much better. But I would say the therapeutic threshold for gabapentin is a matter of time, kind of like benzodiazepine tolerance, and after about 2 months you're just fighting tolerance while having to increase dosage, minimally impacting benefits while massively stacking the negative side effects. It is crucial to monitor any changes in mood or depression while taking the medication and seek medical attention if necessary.Additionally, gabapentin can interact with other medications, including opioids and certain stomach acid medications, so it is important to inform healthcare providers about all medications being taken. My doctor put me on an anti depressant even though I wasn't depressed, to help with the anxiety. Six weeks later I was not really feeling any effects. That was six weeks curled up in a ball with nausea and whole body nerve stress. At one point a black box warning was looked into because of this. You should talk to your doctor about the depression, because you are having a serious side effect from the medication.
