In cats, gabapentin is most often used as a pain medication for chronic pain, such as from arthritis.. Gabapentin is also recognized as beneficial in reducing the fear responses that a kitty may have to the stress of handling and being examined at the vet. Neurontin (gabapentin) is used to treat pain you may have from shingles (postherpetic nerve pain). It is also used with other seizure medicines for partial onset seizures in patients 3 years and older. Gralise (gabapentin) is only used for pain after having shingles (postherpetic nerve pain). It should not be used for any other medical condition. In human use of gabapentin for tinnitus, Zapp 10 reported a case of the relief of tinnitus in a patient with chronic pain.
