to summarize my findings (LOL), the latest studies show that gabapentin doesn't do much for patients with episodic migraine, but it's still under review as a treatment for chronic migraine. Gabapentin is not approved for migraine but many doctors prescribe it off label for migraine I started taking 300 mg once, first day. Side effects were : dizziness, drowsiness, feeling of being high and fatigue. Oh your lucky, if I don’t take gabapentin I’ll only get 1-2-3 hours max sleep, when I take the gabapentin I get 5 if I’m lucky 6 hours, if I take more I get more sleep. Don’t feel groggy after having a coffee, but I’ve worked very hard on boosting my nad and all round energy levels, so that probably plays a role. My only side effect was drowsiness if I took 600 mg or more per dose. I didn't get balance issues until my dosage increased quite a lot, a total of 2700mg a day, that was only for a year. Helps with my everyday neck pain and regular headaches, in addition to migraines themselves. I live with quite a lot of pain due to a violent car accident 17 years ago. Gabapentin is the only thing that has brought the pain down without making things worse on whole. No medication overuse headaches, no gastritis. I have tracked my migraines & tension headaches: there is no correlation between when I take pain meds as prescribed vs as needed and migraine attacks. Everyone is different and maybe some migraineurs really do experience MOH, but I don’t believe it is a viable response from a Dr who knows anything about migraines. His latest GP has prescribed gabapentin which was prior to his last and worst attack so far. When we explained what happened she merely raised the dosage and gave imigran for pain relief. I'm up to 1800 mg a day, not even the full dose, (2 capsules 3x a day) and it was reduced the frequency of my migraines tremendously. I have only had one since starting gabapentin two months ago, and it wasn't all that severe. I'm not sure why gabapentin works so well for me. In fact, people can experience withdrawal symptoms for up to 45 days after they stop taking gabapentin. Although gabapentin does give some people a euphoric “high” which can cause gabapentin abuse, gabapentin abusers do not present with the kind of compulsive, drug-seeking behavior or strong cravings that indicates addiction. But the past three nights I had a headache every time, about thirty minutes after I took my gabapentin. I also noticed that the headache came on each time after I started masturbating (sorry for the TMI, but I think it might be relevant) and I looked up sex headaches, which is apparently a thing. This morning I also have a similar headache. I actually am taking 900 mg of Gabapentin 3Xs a day for seizures and migraine prevention. My seizures have decreased, but I do still have migraines and tension headaches, but not nearly as often. I was also told headaches were a side effect until the right dose is found. Currently trialing Gabapentin and that's working pretty amazingly well as a preventative for me after a lifetime of migraines that stem from the neck and shoulders (not to mention other bodily pains).
