I use it at 1800 mg daily in combination with Nortriptyline 50mg for miserable postherpetic neuralgia , the nerve damage that can result from shingles. Gabapentin needs 3 weeks to kick in and for acclimatization. Gabapentin is very effective on my nerve pain, and it works for me at sub-therapeutic levels (under 900mg). This drug changed my life. Now I know to just start it immediately when I’m having a flare up, and then after a few months am usually able to taper off, and am mostly good to go for a few months until the cycle repeats. Gabapentin works for my cervical neck pain but not for my peripheral neuropathy. I’m sick to death of neurologists pushing this drug on me because it doesn’t work. Ditto for duloxetine. My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 300 mg 3x a day for neck pain. Neck traction, yoga, exercise (mainly focusing on strengthening shoulder/neck area), cervical pillow, stretches etc.. I am currently taking relafen (doesn't help) and low dosage Gabapentin (helps a little). Neurosurgeon recommended surgery.
