I take it for nerve pain as well, and it will most likely be increased graduallyI started at 100mg 3x a day too, but within 4 weeks was up to 100mg 6x a day, then the following month it was increased to 300mg 3x a day, and eventually to what it is now, which is 600mg 4x a day, and it MAY go even higher still, to a max of 3600mg a day Gabapentin works really well for nerve pain, but I had to stop taking it at 100mg a day because it gave me this tingly helmet like feeling, like my head fell asleep like your foot does if you sit on it funny. The doctor suggested a very low dose of 100mg to begin with but after reading up on it I'm wondering if I should even bother. I have joint pain (tested negative for RA and lupus) and some insomnia, but I also have lifelong depression and am aware that Gabapentin can contribute to suicidal thoughts and actions. It's been over a year now and initially I did not have good experiences with it, but I feel like I'm seeing more positive comments lately. Toes and feet are numb yet extremely sensitive to touch and pain. i have been in gabapentin for a little over one month. the VA started me at 300 tid, then 400, then 600, and now i am at 800 tid. i have definitely gained some fat but i so stay very active and eat consciously. my pain and anxiety are definitely lower and my sleep has greatly improved. i was prescribed gabapentin to stay off alcohol and phenibut Most of the important info has already been shared here: Gabapentin has shown to be mildly responsive with some people's nerve pain. There is little to no evidence it has an effect on musculoskeletal pain, but it is often prescribed off-label for that, largely because outside of opiates, there aren't really good options for long-term, chronic pain--and opiates bring their own issues in that My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 300 mg 3x a day for neck pain. I’ve only been taking it once a day and I’ve slept somewhat better but otherwise been in more (maybe due to something else) or similar amounts of pain. I have small fiber neuropathy. I tried gabapentin and lyrica with no effect on my pain - gabapentin makes me incredibly sleepy and puts me in a bad mood. I'm having trouble remembering if lyrica was much different. As you can see from this thread so far, it helps some people and doesn't help others - I had a bad experience, but I wouldn't rule I have back pain with most lifting activities that the Gabapentin helps with. There are some abusers over there so view at your own discretion. Severe nerve pain here from cancer. Gabapentin with psych/depression meds was a freaking nightmare! Now-it DID help with pain if taken with 1 Advil. But not worth the neuro side effects with psych meds! Holy moley! Tread carefully, my friend. Gabapentin completely eliminated the pain and numbess for a bit over a year. Eventually the pain and numbness came back even stronger and the doctor recommended cymbalta. Now with taking both medications im living much more comfortably. I might get severe pain only a couple times a week now, rather than all throughout the day. I was on gabapentin for several years and my pain management doctor switched me to pregablin. I had a 2 week taper down of gabapentin, and had no issues. when I had an elderly cat with painful gastric problems my vet and I decided to try gabapentin – which turned the little guy into a semiconscious shambling shadow of himself with the first (and only) dose. No human experience, but one of our cats has been on gabapentin for a few months now. Nerve pain is my primary issue and after I was off the gabapentin for awhile I feel like my nerve pain improved not being on it, certainly wasn’t helping much. I take Gabapentin, and I like it. How many mg. were you prescribed? I take 900mg 3x a day for nerve pain in my hand from surgery damage, a metal plate in my clavicle. My D.O. is thinking I have RSD. It does not take the pain away completely, but it does help. I take it with Vicodin (2x a day) and that combination helps me get out of bed and I started recently on Gabapentin to treat abdominal distension and pain from IBS-C. The doctor started me on a very low dose (50 mg), and now that I've been on it for 2 weeks, I'm increasing to 100 mg. Gabapentin is helpful to some people with specific pain problems as many in the comments are suggesting. However if you are getting TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) to treat depression and/or anxiety keep in mind gabapentin can actually reduce the efficacy of the treatment. It's not really for pain. I'm in a strange situation at the moment where I've had multiple surgeries to fix damaged nerves in my spermatic cord, and my doctor says that gabapentin will help heal my nerves. Nerve pain isn't caused by a gabapentin deficiency. Consider having your doctor test for things like B12 or folate deficiency, two of several nutrients that when repleted will help resolve nerve pain / neuropathy, instead of just covering it up.
