After having epilepsy surgery, I was prescribed gabapentin to take care of tinnitus as nerves in my head grow back. Since taking 400mg a day, my period stopped altogether, despite having cramps from time to time. When I'm on my period, I get severe anemia, cramps to the point where I throw up if I eat anything, fevers, extreme fatigue, and full body soreness (like I can't move anything without being in pain). I take hormonal birth control to relieve some symptoms but it doesn't fix all. And please make an appt with a gynecologist. Severe period pain COULD be a symptom of something else. I have Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome and have had to go to the doctor before with severe period pain. (Being on hormonal birth control pills has helped a lot.) Hope you are feeling better soon. Hugs. Aww I’m sorry it didn’t work for you. I had an adjustment period to it, where I bled for about 2 weeks straight with horrible cramps, and then after that nothing. I stuck with it mostly because it didn’t make me hormonal like other birth controls do, and it was worth it for me to stick with it past that initial period. However, it has never remotely touched my menstrual pain (cramps, back pain), nor has it ever helped my menstrual migraines in the least. It seems to only help neuropathic pain (e.g. Damaged nerves) but its still plenty worth it for that IMHO. I’m prescribed a low dose (100mg) gabapentin (as needed) for panic and anxiety attacks. My dr has no issue with me taking more if needed though. It’s been wildly successful for me, especially when taking it on an empty stomach. My period started recently, and so did the cramps. Maybe I’m losing it, but, did Gabapentin mess with your cycle? I normally have super on clockwork periods. I had my period right after stopping gabapentin, about a week, and it was normal, right on time, as always. About two days later, I started bleeding again. It’s not heavy, but I need a pad. In the days before your period (If you're consistant) hydrate and eat well, it helps. Marijuana or Rx pain medication is a must, you decide which option is best for you. My period is extremly painful and I'll be bed ridden for the first couple days, so I prep a bit before hand. I was on Gabapentin (and then Pregablin) for the pain my arthritis caused me. It had no effect on me but when I came off them - under the advice of my GP - it was horrendous. Sweats, stomach cramps and insomnia to name a few. Has anyone ever had the experience of Gabapentin causing severe muscle cramps in arms and legs and muscular pain and feeling of weakness? I know it is supposed to basically do the opposite and help with muscular problems..but this has happened twice to me as soon as I started the gaba and it was very severe, Prostaglandins are the molecules that make menstrual cramps so painful and are incidentally also what cause period shits (PGE2 and PGF2a are the specific culprits, they induce uterine contraction and our poor intestines are collateral damage being in so close proximity). That's why these drugs specifically work better than drugs like I recently increased my dosage of gabapentin from 400mg three times a day to 500mg three times a day and my period has gotten much heavier and lasting a lot longer, I'm passing large clots and I'm not sure if it's a gabapentin problem. My doctor prescribed 800mg ibuprofen for period cramps. 800mg lasts me 8 hours. I have also tried 600mg, which last me 6 hours. I am 5’3” 108lbs and this dose is fine. Exactly this! I find it good for cramps, which I get on my period in addition to endo pain, and honestly ibuprofen and paracetamol can usually take the edge off that about 70% of the time. The pain I need help for is like the shooting/sharp endo pains, which occur alongside that pain and also outside of my period. I suffered from severe menstrual cramps and went through the various standards; ibuprofen, hot water bottles, exercises, multi-vitamin, heating pads, etc. These didn't work for me. One day I told my grandma how bad they got and she said that my great grandma used to give her (unsulphured) blackstrap molasses for her bad cramps. Clinical Evidence: Does Gabapentin Help With Cramps? Research regarding gabapentin’s effectiveness for treating cramps is limited but intriguing. Some studies suggest that gabapentin may help alleviate certain types of muscle spasms and nerve-related pain. Reddit iOS Reddit Android Reddit Premium About Reddit Advertise Blog Careers Press. The doctor told me it was "just a bad period". Well, 20 years later and the pain is ALL THE TIME, not just during my period. i’ve tried aleve (naxopren), ibuprofen, 1000 ibuprofen, advil, aspirin, all of the above. the only relief i’ve ever gotten was when my period
