i have l3-l4 herniated disc and nerve root compression. Really painful. been dealing with it for about 4 years. feel it from that spinal segment into my left ribs and left hip, buttock, shoots into my left lower abdomen, groin, outer thigh and outer left knee area into my left foot. I take it as needed for pain and it's one of the few things that actually help (i have 6 herniated discs and my L5 vertebrae is broken). My mom was prescribed it about a month ago for some sciatica she had and it helped her immensely. A relative of mine is using 300 mg of Gabapentin for herniated disk back pain. She can’t have the surgery and has tried water therapy and exercises and massage and everything. This is the so far the only thing that works. 100MG of gabapentin 3x daily until I get my ESI’s and begin physical therapy. They worked amazingly for the first three days or so and then I noticed they weren’t helping with the pain at all. I’m also routinely applying bio freeze and diclofenac sodium topical cream but they just give me a different sensation to focus on besides pain. Gabapentin did not help me in regards to managing nerve pain. Pregabalin however, is another story.. Gabapentin’s bioavailability isn’t that great, and it actually lessens with higher doses (studies have shown it decreases from 60% to 33% as the dose increased from 900mg to 3600mg/day). Objectives: Far lateral lumbar disc herniations (FLLDHs) can cause difficulty and differences in diagnosis and treatment compared with intraspinal herniation. We have aimed to analyze the efficacy of gabapentin as a noninvasive treatment of pain in patients with isolated FLLDH. Please help my sanity, I have two herniated discs, one in the upper portion of my spine and another in the middle portion of my spine. I take gabapentin at 300mg 3 times a day and take 60mg of Duloxetine, both medications are for the pain, anxiety and depression. I’ve been dealing with two herniated discs since October, L4/5, L5/S1, and have been working all of the conservative measures, PT, injections, etc., and am finally at the surgery point. Thankfully, I’ve been working to schedule that for 6-7 weeks and have MD on Tuesday. This is a group created for people considering a microdiscectomy, about to get surgery, or recovering from the surgery. Providing a place for those suffering with a herniated disc to realize you are not alone.Thank you for your continued encouragment of each other. Created and moderated by the creator of "bedbackbeyond.com." I had it prescribed for sciatic pain caused by disc herniation. I was on gaba first then pregabalin before I tried gabapentin again. I didn’t really think either of them helped. But I have seen lots of folks say it had helped them. Everyone is different! Good luck! Apparently they don’t take it seriously unless it is a herniated disc. He did, however, say that he could refer me to a pain doctor if I wanted to try an epidural. I tried PT for a couple of weeks. Just had surgery for a C5-C6 herniated disc. I had significant compression of my spinal cord. Over the course of 2 years I tried months and months of PT. Hot vs cold therapy. Prescription NSAIDS. Steroids (oral). Steroid injections. Epidural steroid injections. Gabapentin. I was miserable and finally said OK to surgery. I take neurontin & it maybe makes me a bit foggy & difficulty with nouns but pain makes me worse at those things. I think it has made my short term memory a bit worse (but a note pad certainly helps that). For me, the neurontin made the pain go from a hypersensitivity to touch from my knees to my shoulder to just the actual problem in my SI joint. I have been increasing the dosage to manage nerce pain associated with a herniated disc. I am awaiting injections that, hopefully will calm the inflamation, reducing the nerve pain. I had back surgery, sucessfully, 13 years ago, but will try the injections as this MRI, shows minamal herniation. Gabapentin is most effective in relieving neuropathic pain conditions caused by disk herniation, spinal stenosis, diabetic neuropathy, and postherpetic neuralgia. It provides limited sciatica and fibromyalgia relief, and is ineffective for reducing arthritis-related chronic low back pain. I (28m) have been diagnosed with a severe herniated disc. It is in my lumbar region of my spine. It took 2 weeks to finally get a pain management appointment. The thing is it’s not until a month and 2 weeks from now. I try everything to help with the pain I have all the pain that comes with a disc herniation. Baclofen is an anti muscle spasm drug, the Gabapentin is for nerve pain. I'd be sorta curious how the combination of Percoset and Gabapentin might work for you. Gabapentin effects the way your brain transmits signals from neuron to neuron so it can make other drugs work better. This takes place within a range of a substance called GABA in the I went to see a neurologist specializing in pain management today and he recommended I either take Gabapentin medication or get an epidural done- Tfesis. Has anyone been between these options and what did you choose? These discs contain a jelly-like center and, with age or injury, can leak out, also known as a herniated or slipped disc. Herniated discs are the most common cause of sciatica, which can cause Not likely: It would be very unusual for Gabapentin to make pain worse. It is very effective for a radiculopathy like Sciatica from a herniated disc. I strongly suspect your increased pain was unrelated to the Gabapentin.
