Hi everyone! I recently had a consultation with a urologist over the phone and he prescribed Amitriptyline and Cimetidine. The whole conversation took about 5 minutes (hello underfunded NHS) and he never told me what these drugs are supposed to do, only to ‘give them a try’. Pregabalin/Lyrica is WAY better than Gabapentin/Neurontin. You don't need to take gigantic doses throughout the day and it isn't as confusing to dose either. I can take a couple hundred milligrams of Lyrics and feel great. It is definitely the successor of Gabapentin and clearly shows. I take gabapentin for fibromyalgia and haven’t seen any difference in my IC symptoms. I take 400 mg a day. I am happy it’s working for you. I have been on Gabapentin 300MG AM and PM for twenty years with no problems. It was prescribed with Nortriptyline HCL 10 MG capsules at PM, and Clonazapam 0.5 MG tablet at PM. This combination, prescribed by a pelvic pain management doctor has been a life saver for me. I’ve found most of my information about IC from this sub and the IC Network - doctors can be really hit or miss on IC. My tool kit for flares include Benedryl, baking soda tablets, Uribel (prescription), Valium suppositories (prescription), epsom salt hot baths, heating pad, ice on urethra, magnesium glycinate, stretching, TENS unit and I take both. Amitriptyline is for the IC and Gabapentin is for my nerve damage. Gabapentin doesn’t do much for my IC though. Gabapentin is the scariest experience I've ever had with a drug- and I was a teenager in the 90's. I wasn't willing to keep taking it and wait for a neurologist appointment to get an actual diagnosis of what was happening, but I'm convinced I was ha Strangely enough, I was prescribed Gabapentin a couple years before developing chronic pain since I was taking it as a psychiatric med. I take it at night, and I definitely notice an improvement in urgency symptoms, and helps me with sleeping more soundly (if the flare is really bad, I’ll wake up maybe 1-3 times, which is still an improvement for me). Dr just started me on a low dose of Gabapentin. I started it today and I am just worried as I always am about starting a new med. Anyone find help from taking Gabapentin?? I also take Elimiron but he is wanting me to get off it if I can get into remission. My urologist only treats IC. They stay in constant contact with the Cleveland Clinic. They started me off on less. The full dosage is 300Mg per a pill. i have been in gabapentin for a little over one month. the VA started me at 300 tid, then 400, then 600, and now i am at 800 tid. i have definitely gained some fat but i so stay very active and eat consciously. my pain and anxiety are definitely lower and my sleep has greatly improved. i was prescribed gabapentin to stay off alcohol and phenibut I used to take gabapentin. It didn't have any effect. My IC symptoms didn't get better or worse. I don't know if everything with IC has the same experience with gabapentin. This is just my experience. Some side effects of gabapentin may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. My doctor prescribed me Gabapentin a few months ago for my IC and I want to let you all know that it seems to be helping, a lot. I was initially on 100mg 3x a day (an extremely low dose) and we've changed the doses a few times since then. Gabapentin is really in a class of its own.. I'd call it a disbenzopiate haha. It has the warmth and optimism that you get from opiates with a nice anxiolytic effect on par with Xanax. That's great and all but the real reason I use Gabapentin is for the dissociative effects. It feels very much like MXE if you've ever done that. I have been dealing with IC since 1995. I am going to ask my doctor about gabapentin. I just wanted to know if anyone can share their experience with taking this medication. Your dose of gabapentin may also need to be adjusted. The typical dose for RLS is 600 mg taken in the evening before symptoms start. However, gabapentin metabolizes quickly, and that’s not good for a solid night’s sleep.
