Hey, thanks for the detailed reply! I quit taking the Gabapentin. My short term memory became almost non-existent. I was only on 400mg a day. I would take, or not, who knows my morning meds and then 10 minutes later not be able to remember if I took them. The biggest issue ive been dealing with is memory loss and trouble recalling simple words. I noticed it within the first month and now it is really bad and makes me feel really slow and dumb when im having conversations. Firstly, beware Gabapentin has several lawsuits and legal issues against it, mostly from memory loss. Pfizer literally plead guilty to marketing it for off label uses such a fibromyalgia. Not only did it do nothing for my pain and others close to me, the brain fog majorly affected my life and work. I've been off the med since July, and I still have memory issues. Finding words, remembering names, movies, foods, Dr 's, places, etc I had a lot of side effects I chalked up to aging (43f). It's been 5 months, with only slight improvement. I think time is the only healer, unfortunately 🫂. Yes, memory loss and confusion, fuzzy feeling and extreme tiredness - many people get this. As far as I am concerned, this drug is poison. How on Earth can they prescribe this so widely and yet so many people have such horrible side effects. And dangerous side effects too. According to this study long term Gabapentin and Baclofen use don’t impair memory unless they’re combined while long term Pregabalin use does impair memory and is increased when combined with Baclofen at least that’s how I understood it. From Walrus, Memory loss, minor memory impairment can happen to those who take gabapentin. In the package insert for the drug, it mentions that mild memory loss was a side effect of certain participants. About 2% of those in clinical trials had some form of cognitive impairment on the drug. My guess about why gabapentin causes side effects is the fluctuating brain levels. For example, 300mg is absorbed at varying percentages with each dose and due to the short half life you are fluctuating from a high of a bit over 300mg (due to accumulation) to a low of around 150mg. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and seek medical attention if experiencing serious side effects or changes in mood or behavior. Gabapentin is prescribed by healthcare professionals and should only be taken under medical supervision. Memory impairment and cognitive decline are two of the greatest concerns with long-term administration of drugs that affect the CNS. In this study, we discovered a significant association between cumulative exposure to gabapentin and pregabalin and the risk of dementia. While the evidence suggests that gabapentin alone does not cause memory loss, it can lead to brain fog or minor confusion. However, combining gabapentin with other drugs like baclofen can result in significant memory loss and impairment. Question: How quick did you start experiencing memory loss (if you did) on this drug and how bad was it? Was it just forgetting things you did, or was it major like mixing up doc appts? I’d rather have my memory intact than be alleviated of 25% of my pain. It makes it about 25% better in the evenings I’d say. I first started taking Gabapentin in 2002, {1200 mg a day}, and had no problems with memory loss until about 3 years of taking it. My short term memory started going and has been getting worse throughout the years certainly not better! Neurontin (gabapentin) is associated with memory loss in a dose dependent fashion, meaning the higher doses you take, the more chance there is of having some sort of memory loss, or cognitive impairment. Gabapentin, a medication commonly used for epilepsy and neuropathic pain, can cause memory problems in some individuals. Memory loss caused by Gabapentin may improve or resolve after stopping the medication, but not everyone will experience a complete recovery. I’ve been taking Gabapentin for four years, with my highest dose being 2700mg (900mg 3x a day) for chronic pain and RLS. I’m down to 1500mg per day and tapering as fast I can because I’ve realized that my memory and cognitive abilities are slowly being wiped away.
