The Gabapentin makes me respond incredibly disproportionately with mood swings and anger and sadness. That’s what I’m fighting against. Reply reply Posted by u/breannam1994 - 3 votes and 12 comments Rare but serious gabapentin side effects include mood changes in children. It can also cause suicidal thoughts or behaviors in children and adults. If you or your child experience changes in behavior or mood while taking gabapentin, contact your prescriber immediately. Posted by u/yves_tanguy - 1 vote and no comments had the mood swings when I was on Neurontin (gabapentin). I agree about the potassium, and eating a few bananas. You might also introduce a little bit of magnesium, too. Gabapentin is off label for bipolar disorder but from what my doctors have said its not really a good mood stablizer. I used it in the past for anxiety and it worked for that. I mean id say give it a shot and if i stablizes your mood thats great. This is exactly why I went off of my daytime dose. I was having depression and mood swings. People at work commented that I didn't seem the same as before I started taking it. I started thinking about death more often which scared me. I don't have a problem with my 200mg dose at night though. Posted by u/NoiseIcy2814 - No votes and no comments Medication does not treat BPD, only it’s symptoms. E.g a mood stabiliser can help with mood swings, but it does not treat the root cause of the mood swings. They can beneficial for helping you get through treatment but not great to stay on long term, unless your BPD is accompanied by other disorders. I currently take 4 antipsychotic meds and by stopping the Ropinirole and decreasing the Gabapentin, I have been having problems with my mood. My psych wants me to stay on at least one of them. I did not know that they both can be used as mood stabilizers until recently. That being said, there are meds for co-occurring mood disorders that can be helpful. I'm currently on Emsam, Lamictal, Trazodone, and Gabapentin. While Emsam has signfiicantly improved my depression and the Trazodone and Gabapentin have helped with sleep, Lamictal hasn't been very effective as far as mood instability. I also started taking gabapentin to combat anxiety a few weeks ago, and I have definitely been more agitated since taking it and quick to anger. I also have experienced a fair amount of mood swings, including crying openly at a TV show that normally would not have affected me that emotionally. I am taking Gabapentin for mood swings. I am going crazy now. It’s making me angry and combative and very argumentative. What do you take for an anti-depressant? I was on other medicines plus Celexa for depression but still had horrible anxiety and crazy mood swings. I now take my gabapentin and 100 mg of Seroquel and I have no anxiety and I feel better overall. Hey, first post here about 2 months back I got diagnosed with Cyclothymia and immediately was prescribed gabapentin. Ever since I started the medication I’ve put on about 30-ish lbs (I’m naturally a bigger guy) but my body image has always been something i’ve struggled with and feeling like I’m overweight is not something beneficial for me in my opinion. I'm on mood stabilizers for Bipolar 1 AND PMDD. The literal life-saving one is Lithium. After I got out of the mental hospital (caused by a massive suicidal mood swing exasperated by PMDD, my period literally started the second day I got there), my psychiatrist (psych nurse) started me on Lithium. My mood is all over the place. I'm not seeing a psychiatrist at the moment, but I'm taking 50 MG of Sertraline for anxiety that my doctor prescribed me. Although it's helping my anxiety a bit, it's doing nothing for my mood swings. I'm thinking about asking my GP tomorrow if I can be prescribed a mood stabilizer. My husband is taking gabapentin for a pinched nerve in neck/slash shoulder. He's 100 mile and hour, talks constantly (quiet before) easily angered, manic, can't sit still, cries (not a crier), happy, sad, furious, depressed, upbeat, all can change at any minute and on to the next. So we are on day 3 of going back down to 300mg of Gabapentin and 25 mg of Pristiq with Clariton for itching. Was wondering if anybody else became moody and irritable on Gabapentin? It seemed to start right at my dose increase so i am hoping backing down my dose is the ticket. Check with your Dr about medications that can lessen the side effects of mood changes. I have the problem with gabapentin that I get irrationally angry. My Dr put me on another medication to help with the mood swings.
