gabapentin muscle spasms reddit gabapentin like lyrica

There aren’t muscle relaxers that will provide pain relief, to the best of my knowledge (and I’ve tried them all of them, including Soma which they virtually never prescribed anymore due to its abuse potential). You need something actually aimed at the pain it sounds like, since you get spasm relief but still have pain. I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing muscle pain and cramps as a result of taking gabapentin. This is not a common side effect of the medication and it's important to discuss any concerns you have with your healthcare provider. My ALS doctor said the best option was a muscle relaxer taken only at night. Not only will it help for cramps and stiffness, but it tends to settle the nervous system down. You don’t have to take them regularly to avoid issues, I low dose every other night means you can stop anytime. I have been taking gabapentin for a few months now and have been noticing large muscle spasms in my arms and legs, and sometimes my abdomen that makes me jerk forward a little. They don't hurt, they just surprise me. Is this a cause for concern? Anyone else have a similar issue? Welcome to /r/gabapentin, here we primarily discuss issues pertaining to the medical, prescribed use of Gabapentin, Lyrica and Phenibut, as well as other Gaba related drugs. This IS NOT the subreddit for discussion of how to get high or otherwise abuse GP. I took the Gabapentin last night and today I am having such bad spasms that I can't get anything done..mainly my arms but my leg spazzed a bit also. Has anyone else had spasms as a side effect from Gabapentin? Gabapentin isn't a muscle relaxant at all, it's its own thing. It alleviates nerve pain and also helps sleep. A muscle relaxer has never helped me with back-related pain. Definitely get the gabapentin if you have nerve pain and even if you don't, it will help you sleep through the night, especially in conjunction with edibles. Slipped disc in my upper back. I dont remember the specifics. I was eating muscle relaxers like candy to no effect. The Dr explained that I had a pinched nerve that was causing the paint not a muscle strain so thats why the Gabapentin worked so well and the flexeril/soma did not. Has anyone ever had the experience of Gabapentin causing severe muscle cramps in arms and legs and muscular pain and feeling of weakness? I know it is supposed to basically do the opposite and help with muscular problems..but this has happened twice to me as soon as I started the gaba and it was very severe, Researchers aren’t quite sure how gabapentin works to treat numbness and muscle twitching in MS. A few studies have looked at gabapentin for treating muscle spasms in MS, and they found that it significantly improved spasticity (muscle stiffness and pain) compared to a placebo (inactive drug). I am on muscle relaxers 2x a day, Celebrex 1x a day, and Gabapentin 200 mg night / Gabapentin 100 mg morning. (I started taking Gabapentin 2 months ago and it initially helped soothe my nerve pain. Now the muscle spasms are so bad that it's making the nerve pain worse than ever.) Flexeril: I started with good ol' Flexeril. I waa recently diagnosed with neuropathy of the knee, due to an injury, and got the muscle twitches prior to starting Gabapentin. Haven't had one since. I was initially prescribed 300mg 3xday. Just increased to 600mg 3xday. It's helping tremendously with my pain. I wore jeans this weekend for the first time in a year! No burning red knee!! All three metrics showed a small difference from placebo for days before the final measurement, maybe about 0.3. In the graph that differed by the end point, muscle pain was about 0.5 points greater than placebo for guaifenesin 1200 mg BID (600 mg BID was the same as placebo). Gabapentin wont help with twitching. In fact no medication exist for twitching. Good sleep, less stress and anxiety can significantly lessen twitching. I take a very low dose and gabapentin, 300 MG in the morning and at night and I get muscle twitching a lot. It can really happen anywhere on my body, sometimes it's quick, other times the twitching happens a lot. Luckily I had meds on hand from previous back issues (usually I bulge a disc) and a doctor in the family to guide me through which to take and when. (Gabapentin, muscle relaxer, Tylenol). Did some heat/cold therapy. Using a walker to get up right now. Managed a few hours of sleep in one awkward position. The twitching and muscle cramping is ruining my life. Get woken up with severe cramps and the twitching I have videoed where sometimes my arm literally jumps. Does anyone on here have this experience? My neurologist swapped me over onto Tizanidine. Similar to flexoril but it's more effective for muscle spasms and has a lower Chance of forming a dependency. My pain specialist and psychiatrist also had me use anti-convulsants like elevil, gabapentin, lyrica, to try to cease the cramping. Gabapentin is used to control seizures, to treat nerve pain that can happen after having had shingles, and to treat a condition called restless legs syndrome. In addition to these FDA-approved uses, doctors sometimes prescribe gabapentin off-label.
