We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us. I’ve been taking amitriptyline and Gabapentin for about 18 years. Very low dose amitriptyline at night only and 600 mg Gabapentin three times a day. I’ve only been without the Gabapentin a few times and it made me feel like I do when I don’t have my thyroid medication. The pain is from the inside out and created brain fog. The most common gabapentin (Neurontin) side effects are dizziness and drowsiness. This may affect your ability to drive or perform other activities. Other gabapentin side effects include edema (fluid buildup), weight gain, and eye problems, but these aren’t as common. Oh, then definitely see a TMJ doctor (not dentist), see a Sleep Apnea doctor (get the CPAP, the dental appliances can worsen bruxism), and see a PT who specializes with TMJ pain and its referral pain (not just someone who knows head and neck pain). TMJ doctors are rare - you need someone who specializes in orofacial pain Gabapentin is a medication commonly used to treat nerve pain in the neck, providing relief and improving the overall quality of life for those suffering from this condition. This is what I have and the same one used where I used to go for PT. Nerve pain isn't caused by a gabapentin deficiency. Consider having your doctor test for things like B12 or folate deficiency, two of several nutrients that when repleted will help resolve nerve pain / neuropathy, instead of just covering it up. Most of the important info has already been shared here: Gabapentin has shown to be mildly responsive with some people's nerve pain. There is little to no evidence it has an effect on musculoskeletal pain, but it is often prescribed off-label for that, largely because outside of opiates, there aren't really good options for long-term, chronic pain--and opiates bring their own issues in that I'm going to ask my GP to see if she can let me try gabapentin since its made for nerve pain. Does anyone have any experience with it, what side effects has it given you, does it affect your thinking/focus? This makes sense because the GABA receptors control anxiety. Other drugs such as benzodiazepines (Xanax, Klonipin, or Valium for example) also work on the GABA receptors, causing an anti-anxiety effect. However, it is not really prescribed for anxiety as is gabapentin. I would recommend going with gabapentin overall for both anxiety and pain. When my pain was getting worse I was put on gabapentin and for me that helped the neuralgia quite a bit but I had to take 1800mg a day and that shit turns you into a zombie. But after being put on pregablin or "lyrica" all my pain got quite a bit worse so my only option is to go back to a the drug that helps (a bit) and makes me forget basic Gabapentin is very effective on my nerve pain, and it works for me at sub-therapeutic levels (under 900mg). This drug changed my life. Now I know to just start it immediately when I’m having a flare up, and then after a few months am usually able to taper off, and am mostly good to go for a few months until the cycle repeats. Took it for a year and a half. I was taking it for nerve pain in my neck and back. It made the ringing worse for me. Stopped taking it because of that, and it can also mess with your emotionsmy fuse got real short when I took it. The nerve pain is the worst / my obvious pain atm. But I’ve have PsA and chronic pain (spinal injuries) so I take Tylenol (pain killers) daily. It’s been helping w my fever for sure. Thanks, appreciate your response Gabapentin works for nerve pain. I use it at 1800 mg daily in combination with Nortriptyline 50mg for miserable postherpetic neuralgia , the nerve damage that can result from shingles. Gabapentin needs 3 weeks to kick in and for acclimatization. when I had an elderly cat with painful gastric problems my vet and I decided to try gabapentin – which turned the little guy into a semiconscious shambling shadow of himself with the first (and only) dose. No human experience, but one of our cats has been on gabapentin for a few months now. Gabapentin works for my cervical neck pain but not for my peripheral neuropathy. I’m sick to death of neurologists pushing this drug on me because it doesn’t work.
