Yes, call your vet and ask.100mg is given to sedate and make a cat less stressed. It is for pain when given in small amounts. Given 90 minutes as a minimum before vists, 1.5 -2 hours is perfect. One the night before would wear off by morning. Call your vet and get exact instructions. So our vet recommended we try gabapentin. It’s easy to mix in his food and he eats it. We currently have him kept in our spare bedroom since we don’t feel safe around him but he hasn’t hissed or growled at us since. This all isn’t ideal but like you, our vet recommended us put him down since there wasn’t a trigger to his attack. Our vet has us start the night before. 1.5 night before. 1.5 2 hours before the appointment. I hate drugging her but it works. It was night and day difference than just giving her one the morning of. The issue might just be how your cat is reacting to it. Issues with gabapentin are pretty rare, it’s more likely the other medication that is causing the extreme fatigue. For us, we’ve been doing 300mg once 2 hours before the appointment, and that’s been sufficient so far, but your vet is likely wanting your cat to be fully zonked out before the visit.
