Does anyone else get horrible nighttime sweating from gabapentin and have you been able to alleviate it? First days i took Gabapentin i had night sweats all over the place and i was on 300mg at night. Next morning when i tried little to no exercise my head was sweaty within minutes. Had to stop due to other side effects eventually. While gabapentin is primarily used for nerve pain and epilepsy, it has been found helpful in treating night sweats for some people. Starting at a lower dose allows you to assess its effects and side effects. Three cases are presented here of late premenopausal women experiencing frequent nighttime awakenings that responded well to bedtime treatment with gabapentin. In one case, what started as isolated nighttime awakenings slowly progressed to awakenings accompanied by typical menopausal night sweats. Took my last dose of Gabapentin 1 week okay and am still having night sweats. Also struggling emotionally with bouts of paranoia, anxiety and tearfulness. The rational part of me knows that I am acting 'irrationally' at the moment and over-reacting to any negative situation that comes my way. Welcome to /r/gabapentin, here we primarily discuss issues pertaining to the medical, prescribed use of Gabapentin, Lyrica and Phenibut, as well as other Gaba related drugs. This IS NOT the subreddit for discussion of how to get high or otherwise abuse GP. I had to stop using my estrogen patches cold turkey and menopause is killing me! Hot flashes and night sweats are probably the biggest symptom right now, brain fog and exhaustion a close second. My dr is recommending a low does SSRI, probably paroxetine (Brisdelle). Does anyone have experience with this treatment? Or any SSRI. The most common gabapentin (Neurontin) side effects are dizziness and drowsiness. This may affect your ability to drive or perform other activities. Other gabapentin side effects include edema (fluid buildup), weight gain, and eye problems, but these aren’t as common. "I have been taking Gabapentin for hot flashes for only about a week, and I can sleep at night. I am not soaked in sweat every hour or so. I can even sleep through most of the night now without waking with hot flashes, and my husband is not freezing. Every night/day, when I wake up from sleeping or napping, I am completely drenched in sweat. This has been happening since 2016. I was prescribed Gabapentin for nerve pain and it ended up helping me sleep and got rid of my night sweats completely. I’ve been on gabapentin for years intermittently for sciatica and it has been effective in helping with sleep and also keeping the worst of the night sweats away. I’m prescribed up to 900mg/day since it’s being used primarily to treat flare ups of severe nerve pain and I’ve been taking it for over 8 years. Neurontin (gabapentin) for Anxiety "I have had general anxiety most of my life, and occasional panic attacks. About a month ago, some personal issues tossed me into a week-long panic attack. I fell into a deep depression that made me have horrible physical pain. I started Neurontin 4 days ago and hours later, I was able to get up and move around. Gabapentin has been a lifesaver for my night sweats and sleep issues. I take 400-800 mg a night depending on how tired I am. Also helps with joint pain. It’s has been exponential for my wellbeing and mental health because I can sleep through the night. Yes I know I will have to come off it slowly one day but that is the same as anything! I However, for someone whose main concern is night sweats or sleep disturbances it would be reasonable to start with one dose a day before bed and then give it a few weeks before adding in daytime doses. When gabapentin is started at too high a dose, side effects, such as feeling dizzy, being tired, or even feeling unsteady, are more common. I deal with extreme reaction to temperatures, mostly heat, but sometimes I get the cold sweats instead. Only one thing helped the sweating itself: I got wipes that are "for underarms" from Amazon that are advertised to keep you from sweating for up to a week. I’ve been taking it for 4 years for night sweats. I have had no side effects at all. My dosage is 3 capsules of 100mgs each. I take 1 most nights but I get night sweats in cycles so when I’m in a cycle I will take all 3. For me it has been a positive experience along with HRT to help me manage the worst menopause symptoms. Gabapentin is commonly used in neurology but rarely in gynecology. As it’s mainly used to prevent seizures, it’s difficult to see how it could help with hot flashes or night sweats. To understand how it could relieve your hot flashes, let’s look at what causes menopause. HRT is the only thing that worked for my hot flashes and night sweats. For me, they are constant with the HRT. How constant? Every 10-15 minutes, 24/7. Im talking flop sweats and being drenched, in a Costco refrigerator in January floor sweat. I had to carry multiple towels and a change of clothes with me everywhere I went. My main complaint about menopause is my night sweats. Apparently gabapentin is effective for those, despite being primarily an anti-seizure/nerve pain drug. So I'll try this. I'd like to do HRT, but I'm willing to see how this works.
