I, initially was prescribed Gabapentin. It did NOT help, but I was urged to stick with it, because it might take time. I stuck with it for at least 3 years, without better results. My insurance would not approve Lyrica. After about 3 years, I developed mild hives. At that point, insurance approved Lyrica. Lyrica did not provide any improvement. I wouldn't worry about dementia. My feet still feel like bee stings at times, but Cymbalta really works for me. I ran out once and the pain was back within 2 days. Your GP, pharmacist or pain team may need to increase the dose for Gabapentin to be effective; Gabapentin does not work for everyone. If you do not feel any improvement in your pain after 6 to 8 weeks, do not suddenly stop taking the tablets but speak to your GP, pharmacist or pain team to discuss reducing and stopping the medication
