Gabapentin has helped me immensely, but I do get a lot of fatigue and brain fog. I could almost always sleep not long after taking 100 mg doses. I get memory issues as well because of the brain fog, and worsened blurry vision (I also get that from migraines). But for me, the side effects are worth the pain relief, at least for right now! Gabapentin seems to work more as a preventative. I haven't found anything that really works as a pain killer when I have an ON headache. I do also get migraine type headaches, brought on my POTS I think and those usually stack with an ON headache. Hello! I am a 28 year-old female, who recently started dealing with occipital neuralgia pain. I would like to preface this by saying that this is my own personal experience, and that if you take any of my advice, I highly recommend discussing it with a doctor before implementing any changes into your current treatment plan. ON seems to present differently for so many. I've found ice at my skull base to be more helpful than heat. Ive tried accupunture ( caused a bit of flaring so I stopped- looking back I would have changed my approach w it) chiro sometimes helped other times flared, massage- focused on traps and scm. Hi Jesika, I too suffer from Occipital Neuralga with all the classic symptoms. Although for over two years the neurology department at my local hospital diagnosed me with Hemicrania Continua! At first I was prescribed Gabapentin 900mg/day along with 50mg/night Amitriptyline and 150mg Tramadol per day. My neurologist had me switch to nortriptyline and I've noticed improvement. Gabapentin worked for me after 1 and a half an hour after ingestion to ease my Occipital Nerve pains at dose 300mg to almost no pain. This pain relief lasted 14 hours or so after 'one' single dose and than the pain came back. Hi all! I have had ON symptoms for about 10 years, but only recently went to a Neurologist and was diagnosed.
