Everyone is different. Gabapentin stopped my intrusive thoughts that would lead to anxiety & panic attacks. The thoughts would start as soon as I woke up & I would fight them all day long. It made it very hard to fall asleep or to go back to sleep after waking. Was given Gabapentin for pain but noticed it stopped those thoughts dead in their I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s and buspar. Minimal help. Supplemented with klonopin (posted this recently as a topic). I just started using 300 mg gabapentin (100 mg in morning and 200 mg) in evening). Seems to be helping. Anyone else using it? Taking an ocd medicine (typically an antidepressant) can heighten your ocd at first because your body might be scared of the new feeling the medicine gives you. For instance I was once in a bad ocd state and I instantly went back on meds. The research that has been done and the literature on the Gabapentin for anxiety is actually a pretty high dose upwards of 2400-3600mg to actually be chronically effective from what I’ve read. I never want to utilize said dose. Gabapentin is actually becoming more and more dangerous. Even for people that take it for seizures and Nero issues. There are long term effects that cause issues (there’s research on this). For me if your on it for anxiety it’s not a good thing it is not FDA approved, I experienced some of the worst side effects from it. I recently got prescribed Gabapentin for OCD and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with it? I have been prescribed 300 mg 3X a day to start out. I have been on medication for severe/extreme OCD for the past five years and am being taken off of the ridiculously high amount of buspirone. Yup.prescribed. 900mg/day but usually only take 600 but with benzos too ( clonazepam and temazepam ) .. I was on lexapro for a few years which helped greatly but eventually the side effects outweighted any benefits the gabapentin helps a little but not that much and the weight gain is bad and hard to loose but thats the only side effect i get. Anyone here on gabapentin? I was given this today for my OCD and chronic pain. I’ve heard mixed things It works better for me because I have anxiety alongside the OCD. SSRI meds made me too hyper. It was the only drug that probably didn’t get worse before it got better, very minimal side effects. Also, it didn’t take long to kick in. Since it helps with anxiety, it helped slow down my thought process about an hour after taking it. So I went to drugs.com reading reviews for anxiolytics and stumbled on gabapentin, which had pages and pages of people saying it works incredibly. I got a prescription for it and haven't had any anxiety at all since taking the first pill. None. The first week or so I had an increase in anxiety/OCD symptoms. That settles out after a few days. The medication really starts to take effect between 2-4 weeks, sometimes 6 weeks. Constipation was a major issue when first starting the medication. Rock hard stools that are extremely painful to pass. Gabapentin reduced my anxiety tremendously. And I had it bad. But it all comes down to biochemistry and what it is what is causing the anxiety. I think a mistake people make is that if it doesn’t help at a low dose they raise the dose super high which can cause lots of side effects and make getting off hard. Gabapentin helped me with OCD especially. When I would wake up in the morning, my mind would repeat the same thought over and over, and my mood swings were crazy. They wouldn't stop. I started taking 1/2 of a tablet under my tongue every morning with food. I just got prescribed 300mg of Gabapentin 3x a day, with the possibility to increase to 4x a day if needed. This is for long term management of anxiety but reading about everyone’s experience online is really stressing me out. My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. Has anyone taken it off label for anxiety? If so, what was your optimum dosage? And how long did it take to start working? Thank you! The biggest problem is when Gabapentin is mixed with opioids I was recently prescribed a low dose of Gabapentin for the nerve damage in my thigh following hip replacement. Seemed to help for a while, and I stopped taking it. I wouldn’t recommend Gabapentin for OCD. It works well for anxiety if you think you might be having problems with GABA. It also desensitizes nerve endings. And when you begin it has wicked side effects so be careful for the first couple of weeks. It helped me chill after my prescribed adderall wore off and with anxiety. But suddenly, it started making my ocd intrusive thoughts worse. Couldn’t sleep, heart racing, non stop racing thoughts, crying fits, etc. Is this a thing? I looked it up and couldn’t find much.
