Ya, although gabapentin did help me for pain the eerie side effects of it I just couldn’t take. -It got worse the longer I took it & ended up being pretty scary towards the end & tapering off it. Pregabalin (brand name Lyrica) helped much more to relieve pain & does not have those icky side effects. Same class drug though (anticonvulsants). I’ve been taking amitriptyline and Gabapentin for about 18 years. Very low dose amitriptyline at night only and 600 mg Gabapentin three times a day. I’ve only been without the Gabapentin a few times and it made me feel like I do when I don’t have my thyroid medication. The pain is from the inside out and created brain fog. Gabapentin for me in 2019 created anger issues. I do not have foot pain by my primary doc gave it a try and I had to go off after 2 weeks. I was on just 300 mg per day. The anger issue could be best described as irritability which is far from my normal behavior. I started recently on Gabapentin to treat abdominal distension and pain from IBS-C. The doctor started me on a very low dose (50 mg), and now that I've been on it for 2 weeks, I'm increasing to 100 mg. Most of the important info has already been shared here: Gabapentin has shown to be mildly responsive with some people's nerve pain. There is little to no evidence it has an effect on musculoskeletal pain, but it is often prescribed off-label for that, largely because outside of opiates, there aren't really good options for long-term, chronic pain--and opiates bring their own issues in that The doctor suggested a very low dose of 100mg to begin with but after reading up on it I'm wondering if I should even bother. I have joint pain (tested negative for RA and lupus) and some insomnia, but I also have lifelong depression and am aware that Gabapentin can contribute to suicidal thoughts and actions. Just not sure what to do here. A PA I saw yesterday while getting a second referral for Physical Therapy said to consider Gabapentin for managing my symptoms and after doing some research it looks like it might help me even my RN mother agreed that it could help me in my particular situation where I can do more things now but I still have pain and other symptoms like heavy ness and numbness. I have back pain with most lifting activities that the Gabapentin helps with. At first the Gabapentin made me really sleepy but I got used to it and it no longer knocks me out thank goodness. There is a separate reddit for Gabapentin if you are interested in learning more. There are some abusers over there so view at your own discretion. I take neurontin & it maybe makes me a bit foggy & difficulty with nouns but pain makes me worse at those things. I think it has made my short term memory a bit worse (but a note pad certainly helps that). For me, the neurontin made the pain go from a hypersensitivity to touch from my knees to my shoulder to just the actual problem in my SI joint. Nerve pain is my primary issue and after I was off the gabapentin for awhile I feel like my nerve pain improved not being on it, certainly wasn’t helping much. That being said we are all different and what works for one doesn’t work for the other. I find specific strains of cannabis and suboxone to be the best combination so far. I have small fiber neuropathy. I tried gabapentin and lyrica with no effect on my pain - gabapentin makes me incredibly sleepy and puts me in a bad mood. I'm having trouble remembering if lyrica was much different. As you can see from this thread so far, it helps some people and doesn't help others - I had a bad experience, but I wouldn't rule Severe nerve pain here from cancer. Gabapentin with psych/depression meds was a freaking nightmare! Now-it DID help with pain if taken with 1 Advil. But not worth the neuro side effects with psych meds! Holy moley! Tread carefully, my friend. I started getting peripheral neuropathy pain about nine months ago in my feet and hands right after I received a cervical steroid injection. I started taking gabapentin about 7 months ago. I have gradually increased my dose from 100 mg a day to 1500 mg. edit subscriptions. popular-all-usersAskReddit-pics-funny-movies-gaming-worldnews-news-todayilearned-nottheonion-explainlikeimfive-mildlyinteresting-DIY-videos-OldSchoolCool My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 300 mg 3x a day for neck pain. I’ve only been taking it once a day and I’ve slept somewhat better but otherwise been in more (maybe due to something else) or similar amounts of pain. What are your experiences with gabapentin? It's been over a year now and initially I did not have good experiences with it, but I feel like I'm seeing more positive comments lately. Toes and feet are numb yet extremely sensitive to touch and pain. Gabapentin completely eliminated the pain and numbess for a bit over a year. Eventually the pain and numbness came back even stronger and the doctor recommended cymbalta. Now with taking both medications im living much more comfortably. I might get severe pain only a couple times a week now, rather than all throughout the day. Nerve pain isn't caused by a gabapentin deficiency. Consider having your doctor test for things like B12 or folate deficiency, two of several nutrients that when repleted will help resolve nerve pain / neuropathy, instead of just covering it up. Gabapentin is helpful to some people with specific pain problems as many in the comments are suggesting. However if you are getting TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) to treat depression and/or anxiety keep in mind gabapentin can actually reduce the efficacy of the treatment. It took almost 2 weeks after that before those mining explosions stopped. For me, I have to stay on gabapentin at this high dose and accept side effects. If you can do without gabapentin and you don't like side effects, do that. I do sleep better these last 5 years since I started gabapentin.
