I live on pmdd reddit looking for ideas. I take b12, vitamin d, magnesium, antidepressants, iron, evening primrose oil and now allegra. 5 days out mood swings start, 2 days out I want to kill myself, the day before I burn anyone in my way (email from a coworker saying I am unprofessional really topped last week). I was on Prozac and 2 gabapentin. PMDD symptoms went away, I had to stop taking it because I was trying to get pregnant, so my psychiatrist prescribe Zoloft which made my symptoms worse. I’m now trying Vitex and ashwagandha Two and a half weeks on yaz, started it around ovulation and am planning on taking it continuously. Have been on gabapentin for a week and a half at I have an irregular period bc I started taking birth control last month. I was literally in bed for days and cut off everyone bc I was just so depressed. I was feeling really light headed today but I had to go to school and took pregabalin, and I felt a lot better. Has anyone used it to cut down their depressive symptoms during pms? When I realized it may be PMDD and I’ve been working to address it with with my doctors: I’ve switched from the extended cycle pill to Yaz which seems to be working better for me. Alongside Prozac, I’ve also been taking gabapentin 3x daily recently and it’s helping significantly to decrease my intrusive thoughts and suicidality during hell week. I've spent years trying to find a gynecologist who knows how to treat PMDD beyond "uh, birth control and antidepressants, good luck." I've finally found one and he gave me a prescription for Lupron to try outbut now that it's actually in my hands I'm scared. I noticed I had “bad pms” and started seeking treatment when I was around 20. I've gotten diagnosed and treated by multiple doctors. I'm 28 I have experienced withdrawal from gabapentin before. My PMDD feels just like a benzo/gabapentin/alcohol withdrawal. PMDD has everything to do with your GABA receptors than it does with hormones. Knowing this can help you find ways to recover. Gabapentin is fabulous for my PMDD! It can be dangerous at high doses of 2000 mg or more, but 100-300 mg has been wonderful for me. I only take it as needed and have never had any withdrawal issues. It did make me dizzy the first few times I took it, but that quickly went away. No weight gain or any other side effects. Hi all, Preface: Always consult a doctor before taking or changing any medication or supplementation!!! I feel like I've tried everything to help my PMDD symptoms - anti-depressants, Rx of gabapentin from doctor, keto diet, exercise, vitamin D, magnesium, etc. - and nothing even came close to helping, not to mention medications made me feel out of it and like a slug person. I just wanted to give you some virtual hugs and let you know you are not alone. I have very long, erratic cycles, as well. I get my period every six to eight weeks, usually closer to eight, but my irritability begins when a "normal" person would PMS but then I don't bleed for another month. It's a downward Absolutely - PMDD is gone 😊 Now I only take 5-HTP in the days leading up to my period - it keeps my mood normal and banishes PMS-insomnia (because, even though PDMM went away, I still had PMS, typically manifesting in 1-2 days of low mood and very poor sleep). 5-HTP is another miracle and one I wish I’d known about years ago! There are clinical trials that demonstrate that combo does improve PMDD and although it’s too early to tell for me, I do find it calming and sleep better taking it in the evenings and don’t get any side effects. That being said, there are meds for co-occurring mood disorders that can be helpful. I'm currently on Emsam, Lamictal, Trazodone, and Gabapentin. While Emsam has signfiicantly improved my depression and the Trazodone and Gabapentin have helped with sleep, Lamictal hasn't been very effective as far as mood instability. When I was post-partum the dr recommend I stay on 20 daily, since women with PMDD are predisposed to PPD/PPA. 16 months later I'm still taking the 20mg of Prozac daily. I've been on it 3 years now, and it's been a complete game changer. "Gabapentin is a prescription medication known as a gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA) analogue. GABA reduces the excitability of nerve cells (neurons) in the brain, which play a role in seizures and the transmission of pain signals. We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us. We decided to taper me off zoloft, add on guanfacine and trial PRN gabapentin. This week was hell week and GUYS I FELT the difference with the gabapentin. I slept for once rather than 3 days of insomnia. Rather than ruminating on all my problems i could feel my brain actually calm down and address my problems or accept them. tl;dr: Every PMDD treatment I've tried has either done nothing or made it worse, so I'm trying a low dose of Gabapentin (100mg to start) for a few days a month during my luteal phase.
