9.3.4.1 Mechanism of action Gabapentin is a new chemical compound designed as a structural analog of GABA that is effective in the treatment of partial seizures. In contrast to GABA, gabapentin readily penetrates the blood–brain barrier. In man, gabapentin has been demonstrated to increase GABA concentrations [126]. I found it to have pretty significant rebound anxiety, and of a different character than that of benzos. It is difficult to articulate but it reminded me more of the rebound you get with GHB although nowhere near as harsh. GABAGoodness is devoted to the discussion of all GABAergics, Gabapentnoids and VDCC inhibitors such as Pregabalin, Gabapentin, Phenibut, Carisoprodol, GHB, Benzodiazepines, Barbiturates, and more! This is a great place to ask general or recreational questions, get harm reduction advice, or share your experience with withdrawal syndromes. As an off-label drug, this is absolutely normal side effect you can expect from this drug. It doesn't work for everyone. I took 100mg 2x daily for anxiety and 100 as needed. I did this for a while and felt like I needed it more frequently as I kept going. Not in a Before I was physically dependent on gabapentin I would take 4500mg of it to get a buzz and still never had rebound anxiety at that dose. I never started having rebound anxiety until I started taking 4.5g every day, and even then it takes about 2 days for the rebound/withdrawal effects to be noticeable. GABA is the skeletal building block from which GabaPentin, PreGabalin/Lyrica and Baclofen are derived. Note that GABA is contained within the names of GabaPenti and PreGabalin. I tried it years ago, but don't recall much in the way of anxiety relief. It just stopped working, and I had horrible rebound depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and insomnia. I felt really bad. My CNP prescribed Gabapentin, and I felt better after the first dose. I take 300mg three times a day and feel wonderful. No more anxiety, depression, constant worrying, and it works great for insomnia. Its effects for anxiety work same or next day for me. But the longer its in your system the more you will notice your life change. I was having panic attacks 3-4 times a week. My anxiety was debilitating. I couldn't get out the house, socialize, work, or live life in general. Gabapentin helped tremendously. i could get back to life. I found that when I was taking Klonopin for anxiety due to trauma event that has caused long term PTSD, it had a rebound effect each afternoon when it was wearing off. I was finally able to stop that medication after six years. But since you’ve been on and off Gabapentin each time the withdrawal or rebound symptoms have the potential to hit sooner and/or be worse. Especially if you use it for a week or two in high doses and then stop abruptly. I’d use the lowest possible amount to be comfortable and not suffer through rebound anxiety and feeling lethargic. Gabapentin, on the other hand, is the best overall. In fact, I cant think of a single negative. It’s euphoric, relaxing, helps my anxiety, functional, no hangover, has an afterglow, and almost has a psychedelic touch to it. Basically, gabapentin is cool. Try gabapentin kids. Gabapentin is actually becoming more and more dangerous. Even for people that take it for seizures and Nero issues. There are long term effects that cause issues (there’s research on this). For me if your on it for anxiety it’s not a good thing it is not FDA approved, I experienced some of the worst side effects from it. I take gabapentin daily for my anxiety, but I also tend to take 2-3 day breaks in between to break up my tolerance every few weeks, those in between days are pretty brutal as the withdrawal usually begins around the 24 hour mark, and I usually lose an entire night of sleep. So about powerful drugs like benzos and gabapentin, they probably make anxiety worse by another mechanism. Anxiety disorders get worse by trying to squash down the anxiety, either by neurotic self assurance thoughts, OCD physical behaviours, or I imagine by drugs. tldr: gabapentin is a weird drug in my opinion; not quite sure how i feel about it. on high doses above 900, it just knocks me out completely and makes me feel numb, and my mood actually darkens a lot. After about 48 hours I’m being hit with some of the worst anxiety ever. Was on 100mg a day for 6 weeks. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Used to help wean off Xanax 1mg. It’s down to .5mg now. Do you do light excersize at all? For many individuals struggling with anxiety, gabapentin has provided relief and improved quality of life. However, as with many psychoactive medications, discontinuation can sometimes lead to unexpected challenges, including the emergence of rebound anxiety. Well, been prescribed and never took gabapentin on a daily basis to avoid dependence. I was fine for a long time, but curious if I overdid it. Has anyone experienced worsening rebound anxiety as they used in this fashion? I don't really get rebound anxiety from gabapentin, just restless legs really bad. I've been taking 600mg hours before bed lately but tonight I've staggered 900 which I'll probably feel. I just wanted to get to a point where I'm only taking 300 before bed which is where I was at prior to this recent binge. Phenibut is way more clear headed, but gabapentin feels better imo. Phenibut lasts longer and makes me way more social and confident. I've only tried gabapentin a couple times recreationally if I'm being honest, but phenibut was still better because it doesnt throw me off mentally like gabapentin.
