I was directed by my doctor that it should not be taken as needed and has to be taken consistently. It doesn’t really help me feel sleepy. But once I get to sleep, I get much better and more restful sleep. As a new user of Gabapentin, prescribed for insomnia, at just a 100mg dose before bed so far I haven't seen the sleep benefits yet but really hope they come at slightly higher doses. Hi guys, want to know if gabapentin helps well for insomnia, because I have a lot of tolerance to benzos md I tried a lot of antidepressants with It helped my anxiety, my depression, my migraines, and my insomnia. I’ve found other medications to help these things so I’m not on gabapentin, but my rls is still a bit of an issue. I will likely go back on a low dose of gaba. It goes great with remeron! They’re often prescribed together because remeron causes rls. For Insomnia "I also have been prescribed gabapentin for neuropathy and most recently for 2 herniated discs in my lower back causing sciatica. The first month was fine, and the only side effect was blurred vision and dizziness. Going on month 6 and having horrible insomnia, memory loss, lack of coordination, pain, depression, anxiety. Affecting Gabapentin keeps my sciatica pain to a minimal. I've taken this drug for the last four years ranging in doses between 300-6000 mg depending on what I was attempting to do. Regarding sleep, I find no difference taking it vs not taking it by itself. If I add a benzo or cannabis, sleep can come on easier without feeling groggy. (been going in circles for almost 2 years, experimenting with Xanax, Gabapentin, Trazadone, and even CPAP (my doctors can't agree if I have true sleep apnea and/or whether my extreme daytime sleepiness and fractured sleep is due to sleep apnea OR plain old insomnia) I tested 14.8 AHI (mild sleep apnea, all hypopneas) in a sleep study. The only one that had almost no side effects is gabapentin. Trazadone, remeron, silenor, Benadryl, Seroquel all make me a zombie the next day. And give crazy nightmares/crazy appetite. Klonopin doesn't work well, plus I don't like benzos. Dayvigo made me very depressed and gave me crazy dreams. Gabapentin is subtle. It's better for staying asleep. She suffered from depression and her psychiatrist prescribed Gabapentin together with other SSRI meds. She said Gabapentin works well in giving her sleep. Hope it will help you too. Gaba only helps me if I use it like once every 3 or 4 days, if I use it every day I get a paradoxal effect anf it causes insomnia. PS doesen’t seem to do much for me. CBD is interesting. Moreover, gabapentin has been shown to increase slow-wave sleep (SWS), promote sleep maintenance, and decrease unwanted awakenings throughout the night. I started taking gabapentin for insomnia, started at 100mg and it was working pretty well at first but gradually made my way to 400mg and wow it really helps. I stopped taking it nightly since things were getting better with my sleep, and I was fine for about a month or two, but now I am finding I'm not reaching deep sleep and waking up more in By enhancing GABA’s effects, gabapentin may help to calm overactive neural circuits, potentially leading to a more relaxed state conducive to sleep. Research has shown that gabapentin can have significant effects on sleep architecture, the pattern and structure of sleep stages throughout the night. I take 400mg gabapentin at night it controls the Night sweats very well but yes not so good for insomnia on its own. Last night I took the gabapentin plus 10mg Zyrtec plus 3mg slow release melatonin and had decent 7 hours of sleep. I woke up twice throughout the night but was able to go back to sleep. Hopefully these work again tonight.
