I’ve been taking Gabapentin 300 mg/3x/day for the last 30 days and it’s seemed to help with my post surgery sciatic pain. I haven’t felt dizziness really maybe because of the pain but yeah between the 975 mg of ibuprofen, 300 mg of Gabapentin, and 800 mg of acetaminophen 3x a day maybe I’ve become numb to the side effects the last 30 days but it’s seemed to help with the pain If you are between the ages of 18 and 60, take no other medication or have no other medical conditions, side effects you are more likely to experience include: Dizziness, drowsiness, tiredness, fever, and nystagmus (a rapid and uncontrollable movement of the eyes). And has a side effect list that covers a poster sized sheet. But the same dr poo poo'd opiods. Which have very few side effects, have virtually no high if taken in the prescribed amounts (and used on pain, not for recreation), and make me actually productive again. It’s usually decent for some patients with neuropathic pain, but I’ve found that it tends to cause side effects at effective doses in elderly patients or doesn’t work well enough in younger patients that respond better to amitriptyline. Down side was the libido. But I think a lot of the SSRI’s do reduce libido. There were some other side effects of the gabapentin that were unpleasant, at least when I took it. I can't speak to coping with the side effects of Gabapentin; however, neuropathic pain modulators are only a part of chronic pain management. Medications like Gabapentin are a temporary solution to reduce nerve type pains and are supposed to be combined with pain science education and patient discussion to assist in neuroplastic remodeling. Side effects for me on Gabapentin did not include any weight gain. Mine were more typical such as drowsiness, unsteadiness on feet when first getting up and foggy thinking. If you end up getting unwanted side effects then you can always try Pregabalin instead. It does the same job, see what works for you. Gabapentin is fairly safe when you use it correctly. It does come with some possible side effects, though. People who misuse this drug are also at risk of additional side effects.
