I was taking gabapentin and it helped a lot. It’s pretty new for social anxiety as it’s mostly for seizures but it’s showing great results. I heard doctors fearing the euphoric feeling in patients tho. CBT is the only therapy that has helped me. I took gabapentin for neuropathy & fibromyalgia and never noticed it doing much of anything for either one (or my anxiety)—it just made me gain a lot of weight. The thing that actually stopped my frequent panic attacks was prozac, and now that I'm medicated for ADHD, my anxiety has gone down even further. I’ve tried beta blockers before and they help a lot with the physical symptoms but it doesn’t really help at all mentally. I have some questions regarding Gabapentin. Is it good for social anxiety and if you guys take it, do you take it on a daily basis or as needed? I really like Gabapentin for anxiety it really did work the only thing I noticed was that it built up a tolerance which I did not like. Now I take Baclofen and it works really well for my social anxiety and it doesn't build up a tolerance, I've actually went lower in my dose and still have the same effect after 2 years of being on it. I take gabapentin for my anxiety and it’s been really, really helpful. I’m already on a battery of meds for ADHD, depression, PTSD, and anxiety, and it still wasn’t fully treating my anxiety. I just started gabapentin a few weeks ago and it’s been quite good. I’m on 300mg 2x daily. I see im a bit late to the party but I wanted to share my experiences with using gabapentin to help with the social/mood aspects of my anxiety and depression. I have been taking 2 300mg capsules per day right before work for a long time and the effects it provides are nothing short of miraculous. I've been on Gabapentin 800mg 3 times a day for nearly 6 years for severe social anxiety and PTSD. You build tolerance VERY quickly (unless you start at a low dose, which it seems you have) but it does still help if even slightly with social situations. I was in a sort of similar situation it appears. What effects do you get from Gabapentin regarding mood and social anxiety/socializing/self esteem? My doc prescribed it to me for depression, social anxiety, pain and appetite. Reviews and ratings for Gabapentin when used in the treatment of anxiety. 491 reviews submitted with a 7.9 average score. My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. GABA is the skeletal building block from which GabaPentin, PreGabalin/Lyrica and Baclofen are derived. Note that GABA is contained within the names of GabaPenti and PreGabalin. I tried it years ago, but don't recall much in the way of anxiety relief. Hello everyone and Happy Holidays — I recently was prescribed Gabapentin for anxiety, 900mg once a day. My main trigger of anxiety is social situations (out in public, talking to new people, new situations). I am wondering if anyone had any success with this medi I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s and buspar. Minimal help. Supplemented with klonopin (posted this recently as a topic). I just started using 300 mg gabapentin (100 mg in morning and 200 mg) in evening). Seems to be helping. Anyone else using it? I've used it for social anxiety with fair results. Sometimes it brightens my social mood but other times I can't really feel it. Still, I like it better than benzos because it doesn't make me drowsy (like ativan). Also, I've noticed that sometimes I'll feel lethargic and kinda hungover the next day (only take 300mg). Don't know if that's common I just started Gabapentin for anxiety. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well. I’ve taken it a couple times during the day and haven’t really noticed a difference on the social anxiety enough to give a good review in that aspect. Im prescribed lorazepam for high anxiety times (mainly flying) and tried substituting gabapentin once and it only made my anxiety worse. Is gabapentin a good option for treating anxiety disorders? This is what research says and why caution is important. I‘m 22 years old and suffering from depression and social anxiety since I was 15. I tried over 13 different medications, 2 depth psychological therapies and 1 behavioral one. Nothing helped. Well, I thought but today I remembered that there was one that helped me a little bit with Social Anxiety. It was Gabapentin (Neurontin). Effexor and Lexapro both helped. I'm still on Lexapro 15mg. They get rid of the physical symptoms for me, but I didn't have them that badly to begin with. Overall they numb the social anxiety, and they are great for depression in my experience. I'm a mid-level provider who sees a lot of patients with depression and anxiety, but some patients present with just some form of anxiety (GAD, panic, social anxiety, etc) without depression. For those patients, my first-line treatment is an SSRI, usually Sertraline, switching to Duloxetine if somnolence becomes an issue.
