Gabapentin caused depression and suicidal thoughts for me, too. I was taking it to lessen the feeling of a neuropathy issue (numbness, not pain) and received the two page warning about suicidal thoughts when I picked up the script from the pharmacy. i have been in gabapentin for a little over one month. the VA started me at 300 tid, then 400, then 600, and now i am at 800 tid. i have definitely gained some fat but i so stay very active and eat consciously. my pain and anxiety are definitely lower and my sleep has greatly improved. i was prescribed gabapentin to stay off alcohol and phenibut The Food and Drug Administration warned in 2008 that all patients being treated with gabapentin or ten other antiepileptic drugs should be informed about the risks of suicidal thoughts and actions. The FDA reviewed 199 clinical trials of the drugs and found that patients who received them had almost twice the risk of suicidal behavior or I tried taking pregabalin first and that actually made me super suicidal. I stopped taking it for a month and then tried again, and within days, more suicidal ideation. I switched to gabapentin and it helped with my pain, but did nothing for my headaches. That makes so much sense! Gabapentin withdrawals are the worst thing I've ever gone through and I withdrew from a high daily dose of SR Morphine with Vicodin for breakthrough pain. That withdrawal was worse physically but I never wanted to kill myself! Gaba withdrawal makes me super suicidal where I always end up reinstating. Gabapentin was discontinued and the patient's suicidal ideation completely subsided. It is imperative to screen, identify, and appropriately manage patients with underlying psychiatric disorders prior to initiating pain management with gabapentin. I've had one patient who reported suicidal thoughts after starting Gabapentin. It is rare but it is a known one. I use gabapentin as a sleep med to reduce my panic disorder and allow me to sleep. I don't think it's ever caused me to have suicidal ideation, even within the first month, so I'd be wary about continuing it if I were you. You should talk to your doctor about stopping usage, cause that doesn't sound good. Feeling alone makes this thing 10x worse. I found an awesome fb group called gabapentin and lyrica withdrawal. It was through a Facebook search that I stumbled across a group called “ Lyrica I was hospitalized in a psychiatry unit for ten days, went home with a different therapy that consisted of 300mg of Gabapentin, 75mg of Pregabalin and Flurazepam 15mg, then my personal psychiatrist lowered the dose at original 100mg prescribed by the neurologist With an increasing demand for non-opioid alternatives, the suicide risk potential for gabapentinoids (gabapentin and pregabalin) is yet to be understood. The half life of gabapentin isn’t very long so it’s completely eliminated by now but your tendency towards depression & the stressful work environment is perhaps too overwhelming atm. Suicidal thoughts should always be taken seriously - please contact a Dr & don’t read anymore gabapentin horror stories. Withdrawals appear to be more intense for mostsuicidal ideation to RLS for months. It’s being abused on the streets. A quick Reddit search shows you the abuse potential.
