The doctor gave me gabapentin and it worked 100x better than the opioids. The pain went from searing burning flossing-with-razor-wire to a mild tickle immediately, then after a few weeks it is gone. If I stop taking the gabapentin it comes back. The clues that mine was nerve pain were: My pain is mostly coming from a specific tooth on the bottom jaw (which is visibly decayed) but not only. Yesterday I was fine, then got some mild toothache in that tooth, then within 40 mins I was in excruciating agonising pain - the worst of my life and that’s including bone fractures and severe period pains that make me vomit. TL;DR: Waiting for tooth extraction appointment. Cat seems uncomfortable or in pain. Is gabapentin indicated for tooth pain in cats and can I use it to make him more comfortable while we wait? Hi all. I took my cat for his routine checkup a few weeks ago and his vet found that he has some tooth resorption. I can’t wait to experience this. I have been so miserable with tooth pain. I actually have some dental issues. So maybe something kick off other things but most of it is a total brain trick and not the actual teeth unfortunately. Does anyone know if gabapentin will help with tooth nerve discomfort more so the bottom back molars near the jaw and also with hyper sensitivity on teeth? Just wondering if anyone here has had experience with gabapentin to help with teeth discomfort/sensitivity nerve irritation. So it’s been 3+ years now that I’m on high dowses of Nucynta and Gabapentin, plus the other 4 prescriptions I take daily, all of which have been cited by my dentist as hurting my gums and tooth health in part for the dehydration they are causing, but also how my nerves react. When I got up to 400 x3 daily I experienced gum pain and mouth sores which went away then I went up to 600x3 daily and experienced horrible gum/teeth pain. I’ve never had dental issues before. I certainly it’s the gabapentin that has caused this for me. Anyone else experienced anything similar? It will not do anything to help acute pain, such as that caused by a toothache. It's typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, weight gain, and mood swings. The best thing to do would be to see your dentist, as soon as possible. Gabapentin is helpful to some people with specific pain problems as many in the comments are suggesting. However if you are getting TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) to treat depression and/or anxiety keep in mind gabapentin can actually reduce the efficacy of the treatment. The best pain reliever for a tooth ache, or really any transient pain is ibuprofen. (I worked with a dentist for 15 years.) If you don't already take Gabapentin, no one is going to prescribe it for you for a tooth ache. The pain pill my vet gave me after this last dental was a flavored chewable and my cat took it easy peasy like it was a treat! They also gave me liquid Gabapentin and that was very hard to give her but I did my best getting doses into her.
