We offer a panoramic view of nociception, from a central perspective, and discuss various pharmacological options available to treat headache and neck pain. We also debate the role of a new antiepileptic drug, gabapentin, in the management of headache and neck pain. It is now considered to be an emergent treatment for pain syndrome. Treatment for an underlying condition often stops frequent headaches. If no such condition is found, treatment focuses on preventing pain. Prevention strategies vary, depending on the type of headache you have and whether medication overuse is contributing to your headaches. Does gabapentin (Neurontin) help prevent episodic migraine? Our observations indicate that gabapentin is well tolerated by patients and that reduces headache frequency and use of symptomatic drugs in both groups. One trial each of gabapentin 900 mg (53 patients), and gabapentin titrated to 1200 mg (63 patients) and 1800 mg (122 patients) failed to show a statistically significant reduction in headache frequency in the active treatment group as compared to the placebo group, whereas one trial of gabapentin titrated to 1800 to 2400 mg (113 patients Gabapentin has an average rating of 7.9 out of 10 from a total of 111 reviews for the off-label treatment of Migraine. 78% of reviewers reported a positive experience, while 13% reported a negative experience. 7.9 average rating out of 10. 111 ratings from 121 user reviews.
