GABA is thought to have a calming effect and reduces nerve activity in the brain, which is believed to slow down nerve signals involved in seizures and pain. Even though these drugs belong to the same class, pregabalin is more potent than gabapentin on a per-milligram (mg) basis. I have lower back nerve pain (damage after an accident). The only thing that touches it is Lyrica (even oxycodone just shrivelled my gut and didn’t touch the pain), but even then it doesn’t kill it - just dulls it enough to think past it and function.
