Fortunately, I found all the posts on Reddit about gabapentin withdrawal and told my doctor there was no way I would take that unless I was desperate. Fast forward almost a year, and unfortunately, out of nowhere my pain just started going bonkers, and so I became desperate about 2 months ago and had to begin using gabapentin. Welcome to /r/gabapentin, here we primarily discuss issues pertaining to the medical, prescribed use of Gabapentin, Lyrica and Phenibut, as well as other Gaba related drugs. This IS NOT the subreddit for discussion of how to get high or otherwise abuse GP. If you want to stop taking gabapentin but have concerns about withdrawal symptoms and other side effects, talk with your doctor and create a plan that works for you. i have been in gabapentin for a little over one month. the VA started me at 300 tid, then 400, then 600, and now i am at 800 tid. i have definitely gained some fat but i so stay very active and eat consciously. my pain and anxiety are definitely lower and my sleep has greatly improved. i was prescribed gabapentin to stay off alcohol and phenibut For many people gab has side effects. They believe there aren't, but some are so severe they are life altering. Those same people (like me and you) also go through withdrawal when we try and get off the drug. Give Gabapentin a go, hopefully it helps. If you end up getting unwanted side effects then you can always try Pregabalin instead. It does the same job, see what works for you. I tried Gabapentin but it didn't work that well for me, so I was switched to Pregabalin instead. But as I said, just try and see. It should work! Among the cases reported, gabapentin withdrawal symptoms typically peaked three days after someone’s last dose. In almost all cases, healthcare providers eventually treated the symptoms by resuming the previous gabapentin dose. Once people resumed their dose, their symptoms disappeared within hours. Side by side there side effects are very similar, They also both have the potential for abuse, addiction and horrid withdrawal as we see in here everyday regardless if it’s being used recreationally or “as prescribed”. Case reports have shown that gabapentin withdrawal often lasts for 5 to 10 days, but some people have taken as long as 18 weeks to completely taper off gabapentin while managing withdrawal symptoms. Symptoms may start within 12 hours to 7 days after stopping gabapentin and may be severe. Gabapentin has a horrendously long half life, so it takes something like 36 hrs to 3 days to start feeling the withdrawal, so the 100mg step down over 7-10 days has been key for me. Sometimes I can go down faster if I’ve been at higher doses for only a day or two. I too am coming off of gabapentin. I was first prescribed 100 mg; then 300 mg; then 600 mg & 900 mg, but decreased to 300 mg again only after a few months of being in 900 mg. The side effects were too brutal. I’m following my dr’s orders to come off very gradually. It’s been very challenging. You just wanna talk to your psychiatrist or a psychiatrist that understands how TMS works on how ya wanna approach it. It also can create dependency and also drowsiness too. One of my patients has to have his mom drive him because of low energy and sleepiness side effects he gets from gabapentin. The bad side effects are a small subset of the people taking it, and those are the ones who post most often on a board like this Reddit board. Reply reply redditor8675039 I love my gabapentine because it allows me to have a better quality of life with almost no side effects but that withdrawal was unexpected. This scares me. Over the past 2 months my doctor started me on 300mg 4 times a day, now up to 800mg 4 times a day for my chronic nerve pain in my spine. Ye, I had a bunch of side effects and also all kinds of horrible withdrawal symptoms. Pain in the upper shoulder, tingles in chest, muscle cramps, low memory, hot and cold flashes, nausea with vomiting, anxiety with constant heart palpitations, flu.. If you just down a bunch of pills, chances are you won't be feeling much of anything, besides a very subtle high. However, if you dose correctly, you'll be feeling fucking amazing for a long duration, and be 100% functional. It becomes a very nice opiate without the side effects and addiction. HOW TO PROPERLY USE GABAPENTIN: Side Effects Common side effects of gabapentin. Gabapentin can cause several common side effects, including dizziness, drowsiness, and fatigue. Other commonly reported side effects include headache, nausea, and blurred vision. These side effects are usually mild and tend to improve over time as the body adjusts to the medication. Gabapentin can lead to suicidal thoughts and since I’ve stopped taking it I haven’t had them. Definitely reach out to your doctor to come up with a tapering off plan if you haven’t already! My worst side effects came from the tapering off period so please reach out for help if anything gets really bad. It will get better! I remember when I was first prescribed gabapentin, doctors had a hard-line stance that it did not cause withdrawal. Same was true for benzos 10 years prior to that. Do not trust your doctor, they are going off of a clinical trial that was likely falsified to get the drug approved, and no trial would go long enough to discover physical Aside from that, the usual withdrawal symptoms are things like anxiety, agitation, sour stomach, headache, fatigue, insomnia just a general crappy feeling, but not usually anything terrible. GPN withdrawal usually only lasts about a week, and it seldom requires supportive care beyond rest.
