Creating a space for people to ask questions about their back pain (whether acute or chronic), giving meaning, and providing hope for those suffering. This is a place that does not tolerate misinformation, outdated notions/ideas, BUT promotes anti-fragility and hope. The human body does heal. The human body can overcome pain. So I went to drugs.com reading reviews for anxiolytics and stumbled on gabapentin, which had pages and pages of people saying it works incredibly. I got a prescription for it and haven't had any anxiety at all since taking the first pill. I’ve been diagnosed with nerve pain from Functional Neurological Disorder and was prescribed pregabalin (which didn’t work for me) and then gabapentin. Overall gabapentin capsules being taken regularly at separate times throughout the day has made my pain seem lower overall. One of the problems with medicine everybody is quick to prescribe without reading the literature. Nobody prescribes gabapentin correctly. Its metabolism and bioavailability are way different than most drugs. I see tons of witch-doctors just upping the dose 1200 mgs qid. This doesn't work. Does gabapentin supposed to work immediately for anxiety or need to build up like for neuropathic pain? Did this or anything else work out for your anxiety? No the gabapentin is one of the worst medications if not the worst I took. As a general rule, using any more than 250-300 mg of gabapentin every 30-45 minutes will result in wasting a significant portion of the total dose of gabapentin, although this number varies depending on the individual. Gabapentin works for nerve pain. I use it at 1800 mg daily in combination with Nortriptyline 50mg for miserable postherpetic neuralgia, the nerve damage that can result from shingles. Gabapentin needs 3 weeks to kick in and for acclimatization. As you titrate up to 1800 mg, different side effects kick in. My method almost always leaves me with a high resembling a cross between a drug that releases dopamine, a mild euphoriant such as mdea, and a tiny dose of phenibut or moderate dose of baclofen. Welcome to /r/gabapentin, here we primarily discuss issues pertaining to the medical, prescribed use of Gabapentin, Lyrica and Phenibut, as well as other Gaba related drugs. This IS NOT the subreddit for discussion of how to get high or otherwise abuse GP. Does it work? Obviously I have anxiety so I’m super nervous about trying out new meds. I’m already on buspar and Ativan. I told him my anxiety is worse lately from my job and I wanted him to increase my Ativan. He doesn’t want to increase my Ativan so he prescribed me 100mg of gabapentin 2X a day. He wants to increase it to 300mg if it helps. I have 1500mg of gabapentin (Neurontin), separated into five doses of 300mg each. I want to use these doses as efficiently as possible. I have a few questions: 1) What intervals should I take the doses in? I know staggering greatly increases absorption. Will 30 minutes work? 2) How large should each dose be? Even the most powerful sleeping pills out there won't knock me out unless I take my gabapentin. They just turn me into a zombie and I'll lay there for hours so tired I can't even move my arm to grab my Gabapentin. Eventually I would work up the energy to take my gaba and within 15 minutes I'd be out like a light. We do NOT promote drug use; - Accept, for better and or worse, that licit & illicit drug use is part of our world and choose to work to minimize its harmful effects rather than simply ignore or condemn them; - Utilize evidence-based, feasible, and cost-effective practices to prevent and reduce harm; - Call for the non-judgmental, non-coercive provision of services and resources to people who I took gabapentin 300 mg three times a day and it definitely helps if pain is unbearable or have numbness. I still suffer from sciatica put it has gotten better and now I don’t take gabapentin unless I have a bad flare up because my doctor does not recommend it long term since i have sciatica now for 7 months. HOW TO PROPERLY USE GABAPENTIN: Drink each down with a decent amount of fizzy soda. The acidity helps it absorb in the stomach. Trust me. Do this. Once you've taken the last pill, have a nice meal. This drastically aids your body's absorption. Gabapentin’s bioavailability is very poor so smaller doses “staggered” out (I do 300mg every 30 minutes with PB) So maybe take another half and have a bite of some healthy fats. It can take up to two hours to work so it’s not like a benzo which are faster acting but it does work for me. I'm struggling with the withdrawal symptoms from effexor, and my NP prescribed gabapentin to help with the anxiety and burning nerves pain. Not once did she say that I would have to go through all of this again when stopping gabapentin. My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. Is gabapentin a good option for treating anxiety disorders? This is what research says and why caution is important.
