Here’s my TMI: Lyrica is 6xs stronger than gabapentin and while I definitely experienced pain relief and it also obliterated my anxiety, I always felt somewhat “high” or altered in a way gabapentin never made me feel. While gabapentin (Neurontin) and pregabalin (Lyrica) share many similarities, there are a few things that set them apart. We’ll highlight seven key differences between these medications below. 1. Pregabalin is FDA approved for more uses than gabapentin, but both are often used off-label. Gabapentin or Pregabalin. I heard that Pregabalin is a stronger anxiolytic but also more addicting and tolerance-building. What are your suggestions or experiences? My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. Yes, well, it does interest me, gabapentin vs pregabalin because I have a decent number of folks on gabapentin, and it maybe seems to help 10-20% for symptom reduction. I also feel, although obviously can't prove, that for many it might be a placebo effect, just knowing there's 'something' they are taking for their anxiety. A subreddit to discuss Pregabalin, otherwise known under the brand name Lyrica. Harm Reduction practices followed. Yes, the side effects will go away with Gabapentin. They should help with fibromyalgia. Lyrica is identifal to Gabapentin, but Lyrica is 6x stronger, lasts longer and IMO is much better for anxiety. If you do switch to Pregabalin you will have less side effects since you already have tolerance to Gabapentin unless you take a break before switching. My bestie had terrible side effects with gabapentin, but Lyrica is great for them. I'm tapering down on gabapentin (from 2700 daily to 600) and starting Lyrica. After almost two weeks it seems positive for overall pain management, but my diabetic neuropathy related nerve pain is noticeably worse. Anxiety: In a small clinical trial, gabapentin was shown to be more effective for anxiety, insomnia, and fatigue symptoms in adults with low-back pain. However, the trial found that pregabalin was more effective for pain reduction. Gabapentin vs. Pregabalin for Anxiety Disorders. Although neither gabapentin nor pregabalin is officially approved for the treatment of anxiety disorders in the United States, growing evidence suggests both medications may offer benefits for certain patients. It is much more potent than gabapentin, and has much better absorption (gabapentin has active transport absorption that is saturable). You can definitely cause significant sedation with pregabalin so need to be careful with titration. Dude there are so many reasons for Lyrica over Gabapentin. If you tolerate the latter, your doc should have no problem trialing you on the former. To name just a few: Lyrica has a linear dose to efficacy ratio. It's also water soluble as opposed to fat (more consistent and easier absorption. Gabapentin is one of the medications i am taking. i also take anafranil, adderall, abilify, and propranolol for adhd/depression/anxiety. It works okay but I am still a reclusive shut-in that has problems looking people in the face, verbal communication, etc. etc. I can go on and on about what's wrong with me Lyrica is 3 to 10 times more potent than gabapentin. Lyrica is really good for the physical symptoms of anxiety but doesn't resolve the anxious thoughts as well as SSRIs are known to do. GABA is the skeletal building block from which GabaPentin, PreGabalin/Lyrica and Baclofen are derived. Note that GABA is contained within the names of GabaPenti and PreGabalin. I used to take gabapentin, but recently switched to Lyrica. I honestly don't find that there's much of a difference. I know some people seem to tolerate one better than the other, but for me, the side effects are about the same. Gabapentin was slightly better as far as helping with anxiety, but they are about the same as far as pain relief. For gabapentin, I had horrible side effects and it did not help my pain at all. I felt no difference on vs off it, even on a high dose. Lyrica, however, is the only thing that helps me. I am on what my dr considers a small dose (100mg/day) and it keeps my pain at a 0-low amount, low/moderate on a bad day. I also read that Lyrica has better bioavailability and absorption with shorter time frame for max output while gaba takes longer. Medicines have different duration of action. Both Lyrica and Neurontin have half-lifes of about 6 hours. These are approximate numbers that vary from person to person and from day to day in the same person.
