The thoughts would start as soon as I woke up & I would fight them all day long. It made it very hard to fall asleep or to go back to sleep after waking. I started to have anxiety symptoms in the middle of September. My doctor put me on an anti depressant even though I wasn't depressed, to help with the anxiety. Six weeks later I was not really feeling any effects. That was six weeks curled up in a ball with nausea and whole body nerve stress. I have been prescribed 200/300mg up to 3x a day and it’s good for masking anxiety sometimes but then you get used to it and when you feel your anxiety unmuted again you want to take another gabapentin. i try to use it twice a day, once in the AM once in the PM but it doesn’t make me super tired it just give me a little bit of a cushion to relax onto when I need it (cptsd etc). i’m not Welcome to /r/gabapentin, here we primarily discuss issues pertaining to the medical, prescribed use of Gabapentin, Lyrica and Phenibut, as well as other Gaba related drugs. This IS NOT the subreddit for discussion of how to get high or otherwise abuse GP. I just got prescribed 300mg of Gabapentin 3x a day, with the possibility to increase to 4x a day if needed. This is for long term management of anxiety but reading about everyone’s experience online is really stressing me out. I just started Gabapentin for anxiety. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well. I take gabapentin daily for my anxiety, but I also tend to take 2-3 day breaks in between to break up my tolerance every few weeks, those in between days are pretty brutal as the withdrawal usually begins around the 24 hour mark, and I usually lose an entire night of sleep. i have been in gabapentin for a little over one month. the VA started me at 300 tid, then 400, then 600, and now i am at 800 tid. i have definitely gained some fat but i so stay very active and eat consciously. my pain and anxiety are definitely lower and my sleep has greatly improved. i was prescribed gabapentin to stay off alcohol and phenibut GABA aka gamma-aminobutyric acid is NOT GabaPentin. GABA is the skeletal building block from which GabaPentin, PreGabalin/Lyrica and Baclofen are derived. Note that GABA is contained within the names of GabaPenti and PreGabalin. I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s and buspar. Minimal help. Supplemented with klonopin (posted this recently as a topic). I just started using 300 mg gabapentin (100 mg in morning and 200 mg) in evening). Seems to be helping. Anyone else using it? I took gabapentin for neuropathy & fibromyalgia and never noticed it doing much of anything for either one (or my anxiety)—it just made me gain a lot of weight. The thing that actually stopped my frequent panic attacks was prozac, and now that I'm medicated for ADHD, my anxiety has gone down even further. Is gabapentin a good option for treating anxiety disorders? This is what research says and why caution is important. My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. I was using Gabapentin for anxiety/recreationally and asked my doc to switch me to lyrica because I thought it would be more recreational but lyrica made me feel shitty and I felt like I almost had a seizure off 250mg lyrica. I had increased anxiety, felt weird, and was getting weird muscle twitches and body jerks. I take 600mgs of gabapentin for anxiety 3xs a day in addition to 2 beta blockers that are also supposed to help ease the anxiety AND 1mg of ativan. The gabapentin is what they put me on most recently and it didn't seem to help much until my dose was significantly increased. I do very much believe it's helping now. Gabapentin is actually becoming more and more dangerous. Even for people that take it for seizures and Nero issues. There are long term effects that cause issues (there’s research on this). For me if your on it for anxiety it’s not a good thing it is not FDA approved, I experienced some of the worst side effects from it. I notice more anxiety symptom relief when I take my first dose later in the day and space the last two doses closer together. Gabapentin is helpful to some people with specific pain problems as many in the comments are suggesting. However if you are getting TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) to treat depression and/or anxiety keep in mind gabapentin can actually reduce the efficacy of the treatment.
