"Gabapentin enhances slow-wave sleep in patients with primary insomnia. It also improves sleep quality by elevating sleep efficiency and decreasing spontaneous arousal. The results suggest that gabapentin may be beneficial in the treatment of primary insomnia." Posts and discussion about insomnia and sleep disorders. I've been prescribed Gabapentin for sleep. I can only sleeping if I've had about 5 or 6 hours the night before but I'm tired through the day. If I sleep 8 hours I'm not tired enough to sleep that night. I would not use Gabapentin off label for sleep. There’s much better meds for insomnia. I’m gabapentin lower dose for nerve issues at night (just nightly dose) and it’s sleep benefits dissipated quickly. I can take a larger dose to sleep but as an insomniac myself it only gives me “short sleep” as it cannot keep me asleep. My psychiatrist said that I might be able to actually stop taking Clonazapam that I am taking for anxiety and sleep as well as the Lamotrogine (that I am taking as a mood stabilizer for bipolar) as Gabapentin can be effective in treating insomnia, anxiety and even act as a mood stabilizer for insomnia. Abnormalities in the gaba system from staying on zyprexa for many years may be why I can’t sleep without zyprexa. Anyways, I’m interested about if it helps anyone for sleep and at what dosage. I was on 1300mg a day and it made me relaxed but it didn’t put me to sleep. Tried for sleep. It worked a few nights happening then stopped. And then I found an old bottle of gabapentin prescribed for shingles pain that I never took. So I decided to try it for sleep. I took 300mg last Friday, and WOW. I slept all night like a baby. For 8 whole hours. I woke up slowly and naturally, and was totally rested. I was maybe a little groggy, but fully awake after coffee. I'm just worried it might cause me bad side affects since I have never taken this drug. Anyone who is taking GP to sleep, could you please share how effective it is? Welcome to /r/gabapentin, here we primarily discuss issues pertaining to the medical, prescribed use of Gabapentin, Lyrica and Phenibut, as well as other Gaba related drugs. This IS NOT the subreddit for discussion of how to get high or otherwise abuse GP. GABAGoodness is devoted to the discussion of all GABAergics, Gabapentnoids and VDCC inhibitors such as Pregabalin, Gabapentin, Phenibut, Carisoprodol, GHB, Benzodiazepines, Barbiturates, and more! This is a great place to ask general or recreational questions, get harm reduction advice, or share your experience with withdrawal syndromes. Preliminary evidence indicates that gabapentin can attenuate insomnia, bolster sleep quality, and increase total sleep duration. I've been given almost all non-benzo sleep aids (trazadone, remeron, lunesta, hydroxyzine etc) and gabapentin is the only one that really helped. Admittedly I take 300mg like 5hrs before bed and top off with two more doses later just for a nice relaxing evening. I finally got to see a neurologist at a sleep practice and he put me on 300 mg of gaba at bedtime and it has allowed me to sleep 4-5 hours per night when I had been getting 1-2 hours on average the last few months whilst on Trazodone and various OTC products. It helps me get to sleep but I’m still waking up at 4 or 5 am. I was prescribed 300mg gabapentin to take as needed/every 8 hrs for pain. I haven't noticed a difference as far as pain, but for the first couple weeks I was taking it, it was really helping me sleep. I wasn't taking it during the day, but I'd take 300mg right before bed. I went from waking up 1-3 times a night to rarely waking up in the night If you look around reddit and google it as well, Gabapentin has helped A LOT of people with sleep issues. Especially when you can fall asleep but then wake up throughout the night. There are multiple studies you can read about as well. Pregabalin used on occasion for me is an excellent insomnia medication. The only downside is it only works for me a couple days and then the effects crap out. I think if you only had to use it once or twice a week though it would work great. 300mg knocks me out! It might be fine for you. It often helps people sleep better, it does for me , so you might be able to come off the Seroquel, which is a much more damaging drug. The bad side effects are a small subset of the people taking it, and those are the ones who post most often on a board like this Reddit board. Regarding sleep, I find no difference taking it vs not taking it by itself. If I add a benzo or cannabis, sleep can come on easier without feeling groggy. As previously stated, gabapentin is a very safe medication. I wouldn't hesitate to try 300 mg based on what you've posted. By taking gabapentin at this higher dosage, I believe, I suppressed my ANS from overreacting to sleep apnea events allowing me more restorative sleep. It's only been 3 days but the improvement is drastic from being a zombie. We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us.
