I had shingles in my left side with pain outbreaks since Oct 2016. I have been on gabapentin since Jan 2016. The pain really does get better with time and gabapentin and shingles pain gets better a six months mark . I try to reduce stress and take a walk outside a few times a week. I also take effexor which has helped me with nerve pain as well. Gabapentin can cause significant drowsiness in the higher doses. Sometimes taking a lower dose during day and higher dose at bedtime improves functioning in daytime and sleep at night.
