Your healthcare provider will determine if you can safely take ondansetron if you’re taking an SNRI or SSRI. 3. Other medications that affect serotonin Like most OTC medicines or prescription medications, gabapentin, too, can have some potentially dangerous interactions with other drugs and supplements. Because of this, it is highly important to inform your provider of any other medications, and even vitamins or supplements, that you are taking regularly so that harm can be avoided. If you have any questions or concerns about the medication, it is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional for clarification. By reading the medication guide, you can familiarize yourself with important information about Cymbalta and ensure that you are taking the medication safely and effectively. Patients taking moderate to high doses of gabapentin (700 mg q day to 2400 mg TID) have been shown to exhibit withdrawal symptoms from as early as 12 hours to 7 days (Norton 2001; Finch 2010; Mersfelder 2016). It is usually taken with a full glass of water, with or without food. Antacids should not be taken within two hours before or after using gabapentin. Alcohol and gabapentin (Neurontin) can also interact with trazodone. Give your prescriber and pharmacist a list of all the medications and supplements you take. They can help you identify possible trazodone interactions. Antidepressants: Certain antidepressants, especially tricyclic antidepressants like amitriptyline and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like fluoxetine, may interact with gabapentin. While not always contraindicative, this combination requires careful monitoring as it can potentiate sedative effects and other side effects. In addition, taking sertraline with grapefruit or grapefruit juice is not recommended, as it has been reported that grapefruit juice can increase the blood levels of the medication, which may lead to more side effects. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It may take some time to find a dose of gabapentin that works for you, but generally, once you’ve settled on the right dose, you may begin to see improvements in around 3 weeks or less. Everyone will respond differently to medication and it may take more or less time to see a change in your anxiety levels.
